Post The delay thing i have been enjoying for the last few days.
It is a concept that i actually had almost a couple years ago, but just sort of put aside for want of cheaper delay chips. Now i have some cheaper delay chips, and i have finally gotten around to putting something together to play with.

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... D=11455720

That is a long ass file. First the bypass, then like seven+ minutes of twiddling with the various delays.

To get the thing together quickly and in such a fashion as it would fit on the breadboard, i left out all of the noise reduction bits that the delay chips need for the time being. That and the simple fact that it is on the breadboard, combine to not help at all with the circuit's noise level, but it is still fun as hell to play with.

This is just one arrangement of the delays, with them all running into each other. The final behemoth will have switching so that they can be cascaded like this, or run parallel as separate delays. Also, this is just mono, the full beast will have the ability, when in parallel mode, so send any of the delays to a left or right output for proper pingpong mindfucking.

I am calling it the Bouncing Ball at the moment.

Aslo, as it is on the board now, each delay is as simple as they get, basically just a time control and a fixed repeats and output level. In proper form, each one will have adjustable delay, level, repeats, and probably, tone, controls.

Aslo aslo, the distorto swells (like 6:20ish i think) are just hitting the strings hard in multiple strikes, as the fixed value repeats are currently set up not to allow full on oscillation, just borderline almost-oscillation.

It may not come across on the too-long clip, but i am really enjoying this toy and cannot wait to get it together properly in a box with all of bells/whistles it desires.

Also, obviously, don't mind the playing. It is hard enough to adjust pots sticking out of a breadboard with one hand, there is no way i was going to be spending any useful effort on playing anything decent or well.

Also also, the first couple minutes are just going through each delay doing the same thing: with all of the other delays set to their shortest, running through the speed control of each one at a time. Because of the order in line, they all sound slightly differently at it, though i don't know if that comes across in the clips at all.

After that first two minutes or so, it starts to get into the pingpongs that come from setting the delays to different times from each other. Which is really where the fun is.

Also also also, at around 4:50, i shut off the Timmy and it is just the direct clean guitar signal from there on out if i recall correctly.

That was nifty. I like the almost-feedbackyness of it. I did kinda space out halfway through and stopped listening for technical things and just listened to the spacey noise of it. Which I suppose is the whole point of the device.

Totally. And it is going to get crazzzzy when i get stereo outputs hooked up and run it into two amps.

Probably the most "useful" sounds in it (aside from the fact that it will be usable as four separate footswitchable delays) would be with less repeat than i have the value fixed at here. With just a couple or four repeats, it could be set up easier to get more consistent ping-pong riddims.

With it set the way it is, just short of oscillationchaos, the pingpongs get messy, tripping all over each other before they die out. Which is nice for that wall of feedback thing, but will also be nice when i get the thing built out properly with adjustable control so i can reign it all in better as desired. Or have like three out of four set short feedback and one just going bonkers, that sort of thing.

I am really looking forward to getting the thing together in a box. Trying to figure out just how much extra shit i need to do that, beyond the stuff i already have lying around. I think i might put an fx loop in each delay as well. The box is going to have to be kind of huge i think.

As it stands now, it will be roughly:

• four complete delays
• 5 stomp switches
• 14 toggle switches
• 19 potentiometers
• 10 I/O jacks
• 15 LEDs

And i haven't even drawn out the mixing section in detail yet. :red:

This gives me an idea: All-in-one OD+distortion+delay pedal.

Like a Fulltone GT-500 plus delay.
