Re: How it is on trash mountain...
The HM300/HM2, only sounds
fully correct with all the knobs dimed.
The DOD Def Metl, should have that last knob on the right set way down(i.e. almost the opposite of where it is in the pictar) because it is the treble and the pedlol has way too much innit.
The HM2 is a very Entombed/euro sort of classic death metal sound. Pretty much nothing else sounds like it at all ever. Super weird unique eq and distortion grain. Cam Heck refers to it as a sort of razor-filled lava sound, and after thinking about it a bit, this seems one of the more apt descriptors for the type of noise it makes.
The DOD pedlol is much more like some classic american solid state amp metal sounds from back in the day. I got it as a very fine substitute for my old departed Crate GX130C. I suspect, though i haven't even looked at the schematics yet, that there have been a couple relatively recent high gain pedlols done by boutique types that borrow heavily from the way the FX86 gets its things done. You can easily get the worst scooped muddy sound ever out of it, BUT it also has a ton of mids available, a feature which allows it to get into that realm of the finest solid state metal amps like the ampeg 140/crate 130 and the like, and where it actually starts to sound pretty fucking good.
Because i either play with the finest very light almost-clean distortion like a Vox, or the most horrible distortions known to man.
Never an in between.
