Thick and chewy, indeed! Sounds really good given the circumstances and in terms of actually just sounding good, mang.

Quiet recording is quiet! I can hear pick-on-strings loud and clear! I'm betting that pedal sounds slick as hell though- it does indeed contain beef. Also, your genre and subgenre choices for this clip are wholly appropriate.

Re: So after months waiting with baited breath...
I've found out why this pedal sounds like a synthesizer and not what it was advertised to.
They provided two kinds of transistor, and I was supposed to use the lower gain one as Q1. I did not.
They provide jacks for the transistors so they are soldered right in. So this will be a hoar to fix, but I guess it's worth it.

Re: So after months waiting with baited breath...
So I replaced the bad jack, replaced the transistor with the lower gain one... Having trouble biasing her. http://www.olcircuits.com/documents2008 ... dguide.pdfPage 25 covers it. But the one they refer to as the 'drain' always reads 9.5V, no matter how I spin the trim pot. Now I'm under the impression it's actually the center one that is the drain? The opposite leg always reads 4.6V, no matter how I spin the trim.

Re: So after months waiting with baited breath...
If you are using J201s the drain would be at the top of the "D" shape the tranny forms when viewed from above. Pinout for MPF102 should be the same. If you are using any other type of JFET, the pinout might be different and you will have to check.
I would make sure that the transistors were facing in the right direction(it is totally possible for certain circuits to work(though badly) with reversed trannies).
If the numbers don't change when adjusting the trimpot, i would start looking for solder bridging the voltage somewhere it shouldn't. Or bridging the legs of the jfets together.
Then i would reflow the solder to the trimpots. And i would make sure that the circuit ground wire is correctly connected and with good solder joints.
Then, i might test the trimpot to determine that it was in fact functional. (i.e. that resistance between the legs does change as expected with movement of the control.)
If you still have nothing at that point i would look into swapping in some new JFETs and seeing if something light have gotten toasted somehow(though it is kind of hard to do that to 'em). Hopefully you have put the things in sockets now, as that makes it a lot easier to fuck with.
