Did you ever pursue this? How'd it go? I'm due to assemble mine in a few days.

yargh! you know-- i didn't, but i wanted to squirrel it away for the future, 'cause i don't have pads on all my mics! nowadays, if i'm using LDCs, though-- all my main gotos have 'em (cad m179s or an e200)- so i find myself less in need for a gang o' pads than i used to. lemme know how it turns out though and what design you pick out of the lot- i'm curious about how it turns out!

Really does sound like a 57 if you put it inside a pair of socks!

I like it but have yet to sock it. I also want to do the impedance cable for the 57 trick.

I put mine together. It works great, toms are coming in clean and manageable. It will probably fall apart though because of my shoddy construction.

No. :red: But picture this... small black box from Radio Shack with three XLR input jacks on one face. Inside the resistors are soldered onto them. Then three bargain bin short XLR cables are coming out of the ass end, they are soldered to the inside bits.

So, you've acquired yerself a Beta 57 and an i5? Not bad, not bad at all. :nods: Your snare drum will be happy.

:huzzah: I am thinking so. I will be sure A/B them on snare and share. They will both serve as fine close guitar mics, which I am excited about as well. :isay:

I think you should be able to get some fine guitar tones outta that collection. :nods: Or any other tones, for that matter. Outside of a big colorful LDC with t00bs or transformers in it, you pretty well have every flavour of mic covered there, save for oddball things like an old carbon mic or a PZM.

Post Re: The What You Got thread
The big LDC vocal mic thing has struck me, but it is not incredibly necessary I guess. Were I to find a good bang-for-your-buck example at a nice price I would probably go for it, but using the M179 or one of the KSM27s has served me just fine thus far.

Concurred; really, you're getting into the realm of specialty stuff (not that they don't sound awesome on other sources) but as far as general porpoise gear, you have pretty well everything covered.

What are your thoughts on the Oktava, by the by?

Iz goot. I like it on snare (for awhile it was my go to snare mic) and as a foil to a more lowend-oriented mic on bass. I haven't used it a whole ton on other sources, but for those purposes I dig it. It's a very clear and accurate sounding mic, fo sho.
