A track I mastered
My good bud lee and myself mastered a track for a local instrumental(ish) prog three piece Nasdaq. Pretty happy with the results. Its a long track but it is pretty sweet so do try and listen to all of it if you can be arsed. Anyway: http://soundcloud.com/nasdaq-band/nasdaq-dead-peasantssoundcloud has squished it a bit with file compression but thats always going to happen I guess.

Sounds fantastic, and this is a type of noise i can get behind. A little mathrock, a little neopsychedelic, a little metal. Nice guitar sounds, nice bass sounds, interestingly tight drumsounds. Huzzah! (definitely a bit long though. the only minus, IMO. i have never liked the format of 26 minute "songs". though really, this is kind of more like four or five simpler songs with no silence in between.)

Nice warm mix. I enjoy the snare sound. I also dig the mathy element to the music, it sounds like the rock and roll version of some of my own ideas.

Re: A track I mastered
Chars guys The cool thing is that this was all recorded in a basement with what ever shit could be scrounged together in time! The guy who mixed it did a pretty damn tooting job so we just had to make it better. The other two tracks on their soundcloud were done with an old reel to reel valve driven 4 track which sounds lovely. My bud has an old sony valve 2 track reel to reel that I should probably fix to run master bounces through. Their usual material is in the 10-15 minute territory and we've got a few more of their songs to work on as they werent happy with the current master (the guy brickwalled it ) and one of the tracks ends with totally crushing doom! Cant wait to break out the trick bag on that one.

I really like this, both the music and the overall production The guitars sound thick and brutal

Re: A track I mastered
I didn't dig it at first, but I kept listening...
I'm about 4 minutes in now... and I'm digging this shit. Especially the cleanish tone. That's some cool tone. The bass tone is very Porcupine Tree-esque.
Don't dig the drum tones at all, but those aren't your fault.
Now to keep listening until shit gets heavier and I'll tell you what I think there.

Re: A track I mastered
From knowing what dan usually rocks I'd guess this was done with an SG special into a mid 70's (indicator switches) superbass and 1960 with H30s boosted with a marshall jackhammer.

Is there a way to download this? I'm on my laptop and sans 'phones at the moment.

Re: A track I mastered
I got off before I could reply, but I liked it. Good tones, very spacious and creative ways of using a three piece. Never once did I say, "Man, this sounds thin and sparse because of the limitations of the number of instruments". However, that kind of stuff is too drone-y and monotonous for me. I like the concept, but without a vocalist to add additional structure to that sort of music my attention span is ever fleeting. It's my burden to bear.

Re: A track I mastered
Its their most ambitious piece for sure. I've spun it a fair bit as you'd imagine and even after mastering it I can still listen to it!
