Post Monstrous Compendium, Plugin Edition.
This is a thread for plugin links.

n00b warning: this is for legitimate links only, to free stuff, share/donationware, or manufacturer's sites. This is not a place to ask where you can get cracked Waves Chris Lord-Alge plugins, and if you ask, I will be forced to sodomize you vigorously. These are the rules.

I'll start it off with some goodies:

DESTROY FX:

Does what it says on the tin.
http://destroyfx.smartelectronix.com/

FLUX:

BitterSweet II transient shaper; rules on drums (especially in parallel) and other stuff too:
http://www.fluxhome.com/products/freewares/bittersweet2

Stereo Tool imager; I like this better than Waves or the stock one in Logic. Embiggen your stereo field:
http://www.fluxhome.com/products/freewares/stereotool

All of what I have up is dual platform, Mac and Windows. This is a cool thing to specify in your post.

Post awesome noisemakers/noisepolishers here. :D

How about you tell us what it is?

Note: They're only free if I say they are. I'm not really following the rules, but I'm not posting links either. This is a thread for awesome plugins, therefore I shall tell you about awesome plugins.

Soundtoys Decapitator:

Antress Modern plugin bundle (free): so many sims of so many amazing compressors. 1176, LA-2A, Distressor, it's all there. There's some other shit too, but I haven't really fucked with that stuff.

Waves SSL bundle: Win.

Post Re: Monstrous Compendium, Plugin Edition.
I only really like a couple of the Antress plugs. I like the Deep Purple EQ, and i like some of the compressors(the LA2A, 1176, and Distressor) but otherwise, i seem to tend to find them to look better than i find them to be useful. :idk:

In general, i roll pretty simply wrt vst actions. I just use a couple things, that for the most part i have been using for a while.

• I use the everliving shit out of some of the Cockos plugins: http://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/ ReaFIR is one of my favorite things ever, like an awesome fucking swiss army knife. An EQ, a compressor, a gate, a noise reduction jibjab, whatever.

• I also have been using this thing quite a bit as a utility limiter vst: http://www.yohng.com/software/w1limit.html It is supposedly a workalike for the Waves L1, except, i... like, actually find this one useful. :red: It can do the cymbal pump ridiculon L1 one thing, but i use it mostly as a simple low-CPU-using basic transparent soft limiter to keep shit from going red, and for light use on geetars and things. It is simpler than shit, uses very little CPU, and stays the fuck out the way on conservative settings. Just useful.

• Lastly, the fucking Tinbrooke Tales shit continues to be rad: http://hem.bredband.net/tbtaudio/archiv ... lugins.htm The 3127 and Saturated Driver see frequent use by me...

Though lately i have been using a lot less of everything. Mainly i just use ReaFIR for hi/lo cuts, W1 for peak controlling, and that is about it. Still working on a "best solution" for snare compression though. Okay results from W1, Antress 1176 and Distressor, but nothing with my current setup for the snare that i am 100% happy with. That is, i feel more a problem of what i have for a snare and mics, and available channels more than anything else though. :idk:

I can verify the Neve and Chandler EMI models dirty up like they should. My ears tell me this against known tracks. I can't speak for their complete accuracy against individual pieces throughout the entire range of control, but they do get in the ballpark at least when blended with a big fat sounding source to add some vibe to a couple guitar tracks.

Waves MPX Master Tape. Part of their Eddie Kramer signature whatnot. Umm... I use this on pretty well every track now for anything serious. I might leave it off a backing vocal or synth overdub or whatever, but that's it.

Caveat: you need a manly computer and run it on every track. I haven't attempted the "bounce them all down with this on, then mix" trick yet, but intend to. This shizzle is the true dizzle, my nizzles. (I can't believe I just said that. )

It's a "character" plugin, at least how I use it. Instant separation though; stuff goes where it should. Hard to describe without mixing and posting an A/B. This is a commercial plugin; it's not too expensive. I suppose it is for something you need to use a fuckload of and tax the hell out of your CPU, but it's a virtual tape machine. The weird thing is that it's not just a distortion plug (you can overdrive it if you'd like) like so many tape sims are, there's something awesomer than that going on under the hood.

Someone poasted this over at hcfx, and i thought it should be poasted here:

http://www.shuriken.se/?page_id=85

Noise/glitch sorts of vst devices, with mac versions for most or all i think.

Though i have not yet gotten a chance to use any of them, they look promising.

of late, i have been WHIPPING on the MOLOT compressor- particularly in the alpha setting. WAY quiet, neutral, and REALLY resistant to pumping. lurve it.

Ambience-- which is a convo verb.. totally great, totally free. so is MOLOT.

also.. loving the boot EQ a bunch, and FERRIC tape saturation.

all that shiz is free too.. but molot is an absolute gem.

Post Re: Monstrous Compendium, Plugin Edition.
y'know.. i recently tried all my gates, and despite it's hilariously antiquated UI, the REAgate works the best for de-noising vocal tracks with no artifacts... i usually don't gate shit... but in this instance, i had a LOT of garbage that was mucking up the drum tracks. and y'know.. no shit... i plugged it in on the vocal buss (there's three vocal tracks-- all tracked concurrently)-- and reagate just did what it was supposed to do without the least hitch.

man i love the reaper.

the REAgate works .

It's totally kicked my snare tracks up a notch... if I let in some of the dry track it is effectively an expander, one which for me, is much easier to use than a 'real' expander.

Saul Windows stuff, and free. Also, apparently, very good, and colorful. (Sonically. Though the GUIs are nice as well.)

Also, I found these, but the guy who posted 'em up admitted he hasn't had the chance to spend time with them:
http://phoenixinflightaudio.blogspot.com/

API, SSL, Harrison EQs and an LA3A.

Yas, Variety of Sound does look like great stuff. I tried the transformer thingie (Tesla?) but ended up just tweaking with my compressor instead. I'm all about the ones that came free with Reaper lately... Jesusonic 1073 is great on snare, for instance.

http://gpuimpulsereverb.de/

It uses your video card to process the convolution reverb or some shit.

I dunno, it sounded nice on the youtube vid.

That is some clever shit. Alas I'm in Logic on a Hackintosh. My graphics card is way more manly than I'll ever use, just to make it a stable system. I don't game or anything. That is a brilliant idea though; all that processing power is just sitting there unused.

So there's a VST version of the Distressor now...

http://cocellproductions.com/Pensadia/s ... lugin.html

Someone did a clip:
https://mega.co.nz/#!fVc0wTCR!YK5yMSUTx ... GBsQ9dk0q0

The clip is untreated, the VST, the hardware Distressor
