I've been mixing for almost a year with the phase shift on one of my monitors on.

Well, they've always sounded good to me. :idk:

I'm betting if you, me and Mr. newholland were given the same source material to mix you'd know which was which right away.

That makes me think that would be a fun thing, get some good players and gear and track something, post it up and say "go nuts!" and see what interpretations we get back.

Oh, and to the aforementioned Mr. newholland, those monitors would be HS80Ms. Y'know, just so y'know.

Just a random idea, but I could probably arrange this and have a couple friends who'd probably be up for drumming on it too. One of whom is no slouch of an engineer himself, just to see what we get back.

On that subject, I believe there are some downloads of tracks from sessions available from someone affiliated with SOS magazine. I'll look for it when I get home from work. You could all download a song and go to town...

hey - that sounds like a blast! i'd be game.. but how in the hell do you ship such a mongo amount of data unless you render stems in mp3?

what a cool experiment that could turn out to be-- i think it'd tell us ALL a bunch about our respective monitoring sitches too.

Well, it would certainly be interesting for me to see how mixes on my shitty setup, of the same source material, would differ, frequency-wise, from the ones that you other folks produced with actual monitors and decent equipment!

How do you guys want it? DIs, MIDI drums, or real amps and Metal Machine stems?

I still have yet to do the drums and bass, but I has no bass so bass will likely be pitch shifted guitar. Unless someone wants to play bass on it? Then I'd have to retrack it again as the guitars are only in tune with themselves. :hypno:

i was just thinking if I could get the DIs and MIDI drums I could make this into a very un-metal version of the mix.
