On the subject of small inexpensive condensers: http://www.12gaugemicrophones.com/products.html

It's, erm, a curious design choice. The acoustic guitar clips on their site sound nice enough though.

Looks likely to be basically what the old Naiant minimics were, decent electrets with a simple amp built in? Price is decent for that style, maybe a little high? The Naiants were less weren't they? They weren't very cool-looking though.

I rather enjoy the shell re-use, myself. :isay:

Listening to the clips they both seem to have some high end missing, which is interesting for an electret, and i wonder if the designer did that on porpoise to mask some of its electret-ness.

I would actually be curious to hear them on a drumset. Might actually work for a little cymbal control.

$90 for the pair kind of puts them in the range of some other choices also though. Several of the chinese SDCs get close to that when they go on sale...

None of them are in shotgun shells though.

The others have that not going for them.

If we're talking ubercheap, there's always these: http://www.karmamics.com/shop/K-Micro-Matched-Pair.html

Hmm. Those are like how the Naints were priced.

I will have to mark that place for future lookings-at. Their pencil condensers @ $129 a pair seem interesting aslo.

First i have to replace the 990 that tor let me borrow that is ugly in audio, so i can return the pair to him at some point. But then i will need to replace their porpoise in my basement aslo.

Was thinking MCA SP1s. Will add this Karma options to the considerationlist. :dukes:

The MCA SP-1s are quite well-regarded, no? Also, discontinued?

Yarr, they are generally positively reviewed. They are basically the same capsule as the 990(and 603, and like a million other mics) but in a big body like a typical LDC(i.e. not the weird half-LDC style of the 990), but they go for $45 a piece all day long, every day. There was once a time when they were even cheaper than that, like $15-20 or something?

As to discontinuedness, i also heard that they were, but they are still widely available. Widely enough available in fact, that i suspect that production has re-commenced for them, assuming it did see a stoppage at some point:
