I'm actually sorta surprised no one has come out with this sooner, seeing as USB mics have been around for a bit now. There any sort of preamp circuit in the thing?

Needs phantom power.

Things like this have existed before though. USB is a prime candidate for the tech, because most of the hardware is in the computer(unlike firewire which puts most of the hardware on the device end of things.)

No way to monitor via hardware, and no indication of latency, both big minuses, when i can currently plug a dynamic microphone directly into my computer with an XLR adapter.

This jobber is moving towards an actual useful implementation though. Just not, IMO, there yet.

One of those tiny 2xXLR USB interfaces that everybody makes just seems more useful. Not much bigger really, but the additions of phantom power and monitoring bits make a massive difference, for what i would need from such a thing.
