Just trying to record a band practice and shit is clipping terribly, no idea why.

Even with the mic gain completely off on my Toneport interface I am getting volume (which I shouldn't) and I am getting MAD volume, shit is clipping like a motherfucker.
I am using a SM57 for the guitar cab and a CAD 417 for a drum overhead and then just tried to use the CAD WAY back in the other room and it's STILL clipping like a bitch with very little volume going to the mic while the mic gain on the interface is STILL completely off on the CAD.
Shit's confusing, man.

The mic cables are fine, AFAIK, they are receiving signal, so I would think that's no problem.
PLEASE POINT OUT MY PROBLEM SO I CAN RECORD THIS SHIT.

Goddamn, it's just fucking brickwalled clipping every time I record..
I am wondering if it's a problem with Reaper or some shit, I am using my guitarist's Mac.
I don't know if this would be a problem were I using my computer.

Make sure that you have the monitoring buttons (looks like a little speaker on each channel (there are 3 settings: off-on-auto(you want off))) off in Reaper. You might have a feedback loop enabled.

Also make sure that the Toneport is selected as the audio device, and that the channels are routed correctly. You may be recording with the Mac's internal mic at the moment.

I had the Toneport UX2 enabled as the input, but it was still doing it.

Next time I am just bringing my laptop to see if that fixes it.
If the problem persists I know either my interface is fucked up from being dropped or something, or possibly something else is fucked up like that feedback loop thing you were talking about.
I am not able to mess with it at the second but I will try to see what's up when I get home.
:idk:
