Appreciate deeper, darker singing voices in this thread.
The Alto
Hers is the voice of a thousand barrooms and ten thousand lonely nights. She takes a drag off her cigarette as she paces back and forth. It is late. She was beautiful once. She still is, in her way. She takes a drink of her wine, having abandoned the glass for the bottle at this hour. Tonight, you will come home. This she knows. She checks the revolver on the nightstand; five bullets, the hammer down on an empty chamber. You will probably be stabbed or shot as you walk through the door. She may embrace you, kiss you, take you to bed. But you will not wake up in the morning as she has poisoned your drink.
The Bass
He has... seen the elephant, as it were. He has seen horrors and known loss. He knew him once, he loved her once. He sits, waiting, half-dozed off, hat pulled low, almost over his eyes. He looks up, checks the watch in the pocket of his vest, an old thing. An affectation? For him, no. It was his grandfather's. He idolized the man growing up, especially after Dad died all those years ago. He looks out from the porch over the grass to the road beyond. Still nothing. He takes a sip of his bourbon, the ice long melted. You will see him eventually, though. You have no choice in the matter.
Nominate heroes and heroines with wonderfully grim voices here.

I would have posted it in 'what are you listening to?', but here is more specialler in this case.
Raymond Watts motherlovers.
That's not my favorite KMFDM record or even close, but that's a cool-ass song.
And yes, those sorts of voices now have a special place here. He would be, I think, among their number. He's a very unique singer with a lot of character! Those are the best kind.

I suppose that's what happens when you have like twenty albums.
I was into it when it came out if only because I was all "one of my favorite bands is back!" but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't hold up as well as some of the others. I still contend their absolute best work was the mid-late '90s. Angst through Symbols are unfuckwithable excellence. And, IMO, the best (straightforward; Adrian Belew's effectfuckery on his NIN guest appearances notwithstanding) guitar work on any industrial record I'm familiar with, and I'm familiar with a damn lot. Psalm 69 and Obsolete are cool in their way, but do not contain shredding. KMFDM contains shredding.) Also, WWIII still holds up in that department, and Jules' effect usage is both tasteful and cool. He knows when to deploy the chorus, delay and whammy pedal and can rip it up.
The En Esch/Gunter Schulz combination was as good a guitar tag team as any metal band. Any metal band.

Ahhh, a subject which I love. Those voices that some folks tends to go "hmmm, what the fuck is that?" Yes. Now that is my type of bag there.
How about going for girls with deep voices or dark sounding. PJ Harvey.

I like both of their voices, but I haven't listened to either in a good while. ('Cept for the Nick Cave collaboration) Ms. Harvey I actually quite like musically.
