Well yes, I love writing and reading. I wish to be a sci-fi/horror writer. Sardo and a couple of other people have read the 20 or so pages of a novel I wrote like, 2 years ago. Looking back it's fairly amateur (I was 17 and still am only 19), but I can see I still have something of a gift for writing, so why not?

Yo V, i was thinking of this a bit earlier. Why not something audio- or film- related? Or indeed audio for film? Audio engineer, recoarding, field recoarding, mixing, there is a fuckton of folks on a film set who are there for collecting sounds. There is some math in the school part of it, but, not so much in the actual work. New York is also a pretty solid film town. I know a dood who has been working there for a while now. It took him a little while to get connected to enough people that he could get enough calls for projects to support himself, but something tells me that is a process that you would enjoy and excel at. IMO, it makes a much better option than accounting/business/law/real estate/computer science/whatever else the meatballs at hc are pushing for. It isn't a fast track to great wealth and early retirement, but once you *are* getting consistent work on good/big projects, you can do pretty well, and even have free time for your own shit in between projects. I would have to ask my friend, but i think it took him a year or two before he was working with any consistency. But he is busy now, doing well. That first bit was just getting enough people to know his name/skillset/number that he would get calls for more work. If folks work with someone on a set and like their work and attitude, they will tend try to bring them in on other stuff. It is about workplace comfortability, skill, and who works well with others, that sort of thing. It just takes some time to build the network. But you could totally start with some audio engineering and/or film production schooling. You are already a filmnerd, and you already have some sound knowledge and a lot of mixing experience...

Audio for film is the most fun, I actually prefer that to doing music-type audio Would love to be a foley artist or something. It's a fucking hard field to get into, I'm still trying and there are just no jobs unless you know people/have loads of experience, at least that's the situation here.

That is actually sort of the same situation, in that networking is only the way in. But of all the places for it, NYC is actually a really good one for someone to work in that field. There are definitely jobs/projects available there, there is basically continual production around the city: lots of movies and tons of TV stuff. There is actually a pretty large and thriving film industry there, and it is a fair bit less insular in some ways than say the arrangement in hollywood proper. The east coast film industry is more interesting as well, IMO. If i was a bit more of a filmnerd, i would definitely consider it even for myself. Actually, even not being a big film fanatic, i would still consider it. Sure as fuck beats working as a baker or a telecom programmer. Or like... anything else i have done for money.
