Post So, like..
My Pabst-chugging Cornish Art School attending hipster friend of mine, Davey, and I have decided to create a webcomic/graphic novel.
I will be playing the role of main plot, character and concept designer while he mans the helm of art.
Our say will have influence in both categories, but we will mostly be sticking to our singular duties.

The basic plot will include;
Post-apocalyptic landscapes
Religious reckoning/Heaven & Hell war
Massive undead flocks
A messiah-like protagonist (gunslinging alcohol type) with some quirky imperfections and a deep backstory
Demonic force, demons
Angels, possibly?
Lots of religious plot affiliations (Mostly first testament based, no Jesus bullshit)
God's behavior will be much more hostile and ware of retribution like in the first testament
Two-sided plot where the ongoings of the opposing force is explained
Plagues and whatnot
Contact between God/Satan to human characters through dreams
The evil forces will prevail in the end due to the overwhelming appeal in terms of materialistic and monetary reward, as the war is fought on Earth
The ending will summarize the pillaging and burning of heaven, the murder and rape of the angels and God's dethroning
The outbreak of evil force will begin in Las Vegas, Nevada due the high concentration of sinning and whatnot, I could make up some alternate universe shit about some huge fascist, indulgent event that threw off the scales and the physical manifestation of evil allowed Satan to tap into the human realm and sent spirits of the undead in human, decaying cannibalistic form.

A lot of the landscape will desert, Road Warrior-esque desert valley bullshit.
Car jammed streets, food shortages overtime, gasoline shortages, etc.
I figure the war between God and Satan could take 4 or 5 years?
:idk:

I have much more details (mostly plot and character detail) written down than this, it was mostly just to give you some an idea of what I'm getting at conceptually.
I was just wondering if it sounded too ambitious, over the top or just generally uninteresting.
I respect and agree with most of your opinions, so I wanted an outside perspective.

It's definitely an ambitious project, that's for sure.
It's gonna take awhile to get going though.

Sounds like it could be interesting.

You need to decide whether or not you want to do a web comic or a graphic novel though.

Two very different things, with very different writing styles (plot arc and narrative structures have to be worked around the episodic format of the comic [for example: a three panel strip can't tell a story the same way a full page strip can't tell a story the way a small comic book can't tell a story the same way a graphic novel can]) and ways of publishing.

Publishing a web comic or any online media independently affords you the opportunity to have complete artistic control over all of the content, meaning no censoring or "notes" from a publisher. Also, it can be significantly cheaper but far more time consuming.

Traditional publication can still be done independently, but it's expensive. Also, you will have to enter the world of graphic publishing. Snaxie could probably tell you more about this, most likely because he has a bit more experience with printing graphics (I am assuming), but different printers you different papers and different inks through different quality machines. Will you be printing B&W or color? If color, you have to pay attention to the color consistency from page to page, the sharpness/quality of the images, the quality of the paper it is printed, etc.... According to comic book creators I talked to, that can become a real bitchy part of the industry.

If you go with a publisher, you have to deal with going with a publisher. This means you will most likely want to hire someone to represent you when it comes to getting a contract signed and all the other fun legal bullshit that publishers use to make their money off of artists. It is their job after all. But, they already have their publishing system up and running meaning you will have to do less hands-on work to make sure your product comes out the way you want it to. It is their job after all.

I met a bunch of comic guys at the convention I went to and most of their stuff was pretty bad. It usually boiled down to hot chicks with huge boobs and armor, zombies and/or gore, fan fiction/spin offs or a combination of all of the above. The stories were usually pretty predictable, cut and dry what you would expect from a comic book.

If that is your main competition, you shouldn't have too much trouble.

I have made books professionally, yes. For whatever that's worth. For local and national publishers. I may or may not know what you need to know, 'cause I'm only That Asshole who makes sure they're cool to go on press.

This, more or less.

BUT, for the meantime character development is taking place.
Image, background, body language, speech characteristics, all that shit.

You know, if you check out the earliest episodes of a lot of familiar comics, TV series, etc, you'll find that the characters often start out pretty differently than what they end up settling into. Maybe you should invest your effort into just launching your story right now with the general idea already worked out instead of hammering down every detail. You'd save some time and get on it sooner, and possibly not find yourself constrained to what you'd already determined to be your character profiles and scenarios.

tl;dr : Less talk, more do

That's if he decides to do a webcomic :cop:

But for cereal, the man is truthy. I never plan things out when I write them. I hate outlines and such.

I began my first dialog attempt last night and it went well.
I was super fuckered and all the ideas are/were there.
Lots of plot developments/concept realization.
