The new Black Keys album is my number one for 2010.

Great playing, AMAZING production and the songwriting is damn near untouchable. They step way outside the two-piece boundaries on this one. There are lots of synths, organs, basses, back-up vocals and all sorts of awesome stuff on this album.

Also, some of my favorite fucktup guitar toanes evar.

The production on the album is nearly untouched, honestly.

HOWEVER, my #1 for 2010 is probably New Junk Aesthetic.

I have to say, i thought 2010 pretty much sucked for records. A couple good or good-ish ones, but nothing really spectacular.

Also, i am always surprised how much folks love the Black Keys. They really don't do much for me at all.

2009 was the shit, though.

No doubt, 2009 had a fucktonne of good shit come out, from like, everybody. For 2010, they must have all just been spent.

The Black Keys were always an enjoyable band for me, but I was never too much into them.

The new album really turned me onto them. It's got that old soul feel to it I dig.

I usually don't hear about records until years after they are produced, so I really can't form an opinion on that.

I figured they were some shitty hipster band that I would hate.
But they're real good.

I'd never listened to this one because when I torrented their discog back in '07, this was in .mpc format. Now I listen. It is very very cool. Lots of weird shit, and not in a fail way like some of their other old stuff. And it's br00tz, not symphonic faerie music, as it is with all their old stuff...

btw I seem to remember something about the black keys colabborating with some rap/hip hop guys to make a hip hop album. Did I imagine this or did it happen?

The guitarist from The Black Keys produces now, IIRC.

I don't know if anything has come of it, as far as them releasing a specific album, but I think he has had his hand in a few releases.
