Did a full days downhilling at Bringewood on the uplift yesterday. I feel very stiff today. Not advisable on a hardtail, it's rooty and rutty as FUCK Also had an otb and smashed my chest into my stem/bars as well as bent my saddle rails in a comical fashion so it now looks flaccid

The house party last night was awesome. It was hipster central but most of them were cool enough and didnt act like dicks. The bands were great and a totally hotass chick forced quality dank and her phone number on me.
Win.

The above isnt going to help my karting performance though haha

Well fuck. I managed to make a dick out of myself again. Me and 2 friends went out last night. The girl we were with brought us to some of her friends party that they were hosting for someones birthday. I drank a lot before we left. Then they had a 2 for 1 drink special. Got hammered even worse. Blacked out at the bar lounge place. Ended up telling a girl there that she looked fat and that I thought she was at least 40 lbs overweight. Everyone got mad at me. I kept insulting them, then I threw my jacket and ran out. Somehow ended up back at my place.

I've only been out about 5-6 times mostly due to not being arsed to clean the bike after each ride Yesterday was the first ride I've had for ages where my bike had a thin film of dust rather than mud-cloggage Pretty much sticking to riding downhill/jumps and stuff now since I can only mtb on weekends and I might as well be having the most fun rather than pushing myself riding xc climbs and such Thus I need to mtfu and get a full sus.

Full sus makes it 100 times more enjoyable if solely for the reduced pedal vibration so you can concentrate on your lines more. They also look way fucking cooler.
There are usually good deals to be had on norcos on ebay.

I was gonna get a Norco 6 a while ago but backed out as I didn't think I could justify it Tbh I don't have a problem with losing my feet etc since getting my technique sorted out, it's just the extra speed you can get from a full sus that I love.. I was managing to keep up with a couple of the guys on big bikes on my 140mm forked Trailstar on a couple of occasions though

Drunk rampage was worse than I thought.

Attempted to pull my friends dress off last night in the bar. Tried to fight people. Made a scene. And then there was at least an hour of me blacked out roaming the streets of NY.

I just got a wonderful terrible idea.

It occurred to me that my firewire interface, an Alesis Multimix 8 channel mixer, was also produced in 12 and 16 channel models, also with firewire. The 12 brings 12 channels in over firewire, the 16 brings 16 in(durr).

I got to wondering if hmm.. maybe Alesis built these things smart, and modular. So i got out my screwdriver.



This is what i found. In my hand is the Firewire card. You may not be able to read it, but the top left corner says "FROM FIREWIRE EXPANSION", but there is no header(plastic pluggy thing) in the spot.

I thought... Hmm.

I went looking a bit, and found this image of the Multimix 16's firewire main board:



HMM. Why, THAT looks ever so slightly familiar. (but with a header in the spot that mine has empty!)

THEN, i found this:



Which is the expansion board referenced on the PCB. This one is the one from the Multimix 16. The one from the 12 only has 12 pins on its "AUDIO MAIN" headers...

The expansion board is listed at $83 from a parts place.

The missing header plug would probably be about $0.08 from Mouser electronics.



SOoooooo. I think i am going to try to do something. Too broke to get the expansion card right now. But, i am going to try to make my Multimix8 mixer, into a multimix 16 interface. I am going to (try to) ditch the whole rest of the mixer, just keep the firewire board, the main power board(also modular and shared by the 8, 12, and 16), and get the 16's expansion card and a header for the 8's board.

Then, i will just build like sixteen of those $5 "giant killer" mic preamps (like this one: http://www.audiomasterclass.com/?p=arch ... s-revealed) to feed the firewire cards with.

If i get lucky(for a change) i think i just might be able to build a sixteen input firewire interface for just another $200 or so. Granted, the A/D conversion will be the same as it is in the Multimix now... But the preamps will be nicer. And the whole unit will be more compact. And i will be theoretically able to track 16 channels at once.

And i will have DIYed my own audio interface. Which is good for, i don't know, nerd points?



Now i just need some fucking money.

I'm glad to see you're getting some proper use out of the thing; I never used it for more than a jam room mixer to plug my synths/Pod/whatever into.




I go back to the big studio tomorrow night to mix a Garda single on the SSL and happyfunshit. I found Waves SSL G-Channel that, like, fell off the back of a truck or something and did a mix from scratch with it on everything yesterday afternoon and am using that as a reference as, well, they have a SSL G-Series there. The fun part will be writing down all my settings.

Also, Chris: you're ditching the EQ and effects section?

Could you not just take pictures of all of the boards and everything to save/record your settings?

I suppose I could work off a fucklot of screenshots versus out of one of my notebooks. It's just to get something going right off the bat to save a bit of time 'cause I have some vocalbits I'm re-cutting.

It would be awesome to just take the pictures, and then print them all out and put them in a binder. That way you could always just go back in and reference it like that.

I don't own a printer. Which is moderately hilarious as I've worked at printing companies for years. This is also assuming my fake SSL is accurate to the real SSL.

That is some hipster irony right there. To be honest, I don't own a printer either and I usually end up printing about 200 pages or so a semester.
