I am sure there are some. But i can't think of any.

I think they actually call the music they make "White Metal".

Like, completely seriously. Like they aren't joking about the name at all.

My Mom was/is a leader for the Youth/Confirmation groups at our church.

Thus, I was roped into going to these large youth conferences. The largest I went to was the NCYC (National Catholic Youth Conference) which of course was full of christian bands trying to become liek ubar-famus.

Now, a lot of the christian metal bands you see are pretty bad. But just imagine, they are the good ones. What I mean is they are the ones that actually got exposure. Goddamn you should hear some of the albums I listened to at the NCYC. It is hard to maintain a christian attitude when you are using all of your self-control to not laugh in the face of the guy who is telling you about how preaching through metal music was his mission from God, yet his band is terrible and thus will be heard by all of 10 people.

But, it is the message that counts, right?

Doooooood. I was stuck in the middle of this crap for quite a few years of my youngness.

There were VERY FEW christian bands that were not terrible. And even then, once you go and listen to secular bands that are actually good, you pretty much never go back to the "okay" christian bands ever again, except for the throwback novelty of it.

Of course, i have become fairly antireligious since those early days anyhow...

Anyhoo, on the VERY short list of bands that could stand on their own next to secular artists who were contemporary, these doods:

But, of course, you would have to be into oldschool death metal to care about them even.

The situation is a little different today, as there is actually a fair bit of money in it for bands who are willing to claim to be, and (mostly) act, Christian. :idk: But back then, it was a pretty rough scene, with a LOT of really terrible sounds being made.

Oh dude there is SO MUCH money in Christian music.

Especially in contemporary-Catholicism where they are trying to [Cardinal Glick]"hook'em while their young"[/Cardinal Glick].

At said conferences, even the worst of bands were selling piles and piles of t-shirts, hats and etc. Essentially, the christian music scene is very similar to the modern indie-hipster scene. It doesn't matter about the music, as long as I can look cool "liking" it. There were kids at these conferences who would spend the entire week buying and trading the super-cool shirts that these bands were putting out.

"Yeah, but he's SO GOOD."

"You know, these days there's like a thousand bands who sound just like this. You should check it out, you might really dig it."

"It's only magical when Sabbath do it."

etc... so cute. :D
