Strat position 3 appreciation thread.
I've taken to using this for the vast majority of my rhythm tones when I don't need high gain. I think it's woefully underappreciated. It's overshadowed by the funk/cheeze of 2 and 4 and the glory that is the neck position for clean and lead tones. And everyone hangs out on bridge position for rhythm work. Position 3 is such a lovely combination of thickness while still retaining some of the bite of the bridge.

I am still considering "Nashvilling" my Tele with a Widerange humbucker in the neck, strat in the middle and Tele bridge combination.
I could actually enjoy a strat with only neck and middle pickups. I hate strat bridge pickups that I have used. HSS

I hated the bridge single too. Then I got a humbucker in there, which is nice, but I miss the single.
I almost missed my strat bridge single.
Until I got a Tele.

The strat neck amazes me in that it is one of my favorite pickups for stupidly high-gain fuzz tones and for pristine clean tones.
Few other pups can pull that kind of balancing act. In fact, if I don't end up crazy-modding my Tele, I am definitely replacing the Tele neck pup with a strat one.
I am pretty sure if I do that, I am going to go ahead and go full Nashville-style on that bitch.

IT IS ON, MOTHERFUCKER!
Really though, you just need to desolder and remove the tele neck pickup covers. Then put the pickup as close to the strings as it will go without contact or the magnets damping the strings.

Hmmm, come to think of it the only t-neck pups I liked were the GFS fat bodies without the covers.

GUESS WHAT IMA GONNA DO TONIGHT!
Also, to avoid de-railing the thread, go check my final countdown thread. I posted an album full of the BMP gut shots.

It can be a little bit of a whore to get the solder holding the cover melted enough to get it off. I don't remember exactly, but i think that the last time i did it, i used some diagonal cutters and a (very carefully applied-you don't want to cut any of the wires in the windings!) exacto knife to make it happen.
If your soldering iron is relatively beefy, you might be able to get them off relatively easy though. Just keep in mind that if your iron is underpowered, and it takes too long, too much heat might make its way through the pickup , and possibly even short it out by melting some of the windings' insulation.

Well I was going to replace the pickup anyways, so I really have nothin to lose.

This is a wise man, that tor should have known about 3 years ago when he did the exact same thing.....
