I think the Twin would've been a bit better in that regard...

True, but the Ovation would be easier to wield. It is like the difference between a giant warhammer and a katana. Both can kill you, just differently.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Id rather hit someone with $(whatever a twin is worth) worth of 58s over a twin.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Valid point is valid.
If the headstock splinters just right on the Ovation, impalement is forthcoming. You can't impale someone with a Twin Reverb.

I think the Twin would be better for dropping on someone from a two-story window, piano/anvil style.

They'd be inside a net bag, on the end of a rope. That would clobber.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
A Twin would be heavier. 58s would be more uneven and lumpier. Take that for whatever it's worth.
Also, Mr. Knope, if you have a 57 kicking around, don't bother. Same capsule, difference is minimal, mostly from the grill assembly. Unless you need another of the same thing. A Shure Beta, Audix or Sennheiser is a different animal. Alternately, if you have one of those and don't have a 57/58...

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I missed the Peter Murphy show last night, but I saw him last time around. I do get to go see The Crystal Method next month though! I them much. The only time I've been to the club they'll be at was on Halloween the year before last. I was wearing a Japanese geisha outfit and we were both two bottles of wine in a piece when we got there. (This was the first place we hit up.) There are significant portions of the night that are a blur or not remembered by any involved. I think there might be purple lights, which is cool? Fucked if I know. ALSO: I want to build a plate reverb from scrap printing plates.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I figure they're big enough, and a whole bunch of 'em get tossed every day- they have a finite lifespan, especially when you're printing, say, fiftythousand of something. The plates themselves are a slight bit less than 3' x 4'. I can probably score these for nothing.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I'm not sure. I just went and found a box and looked, but it doesn't say. I'm guessing 1mm? They have some substance to them, but they will flex and make a nifty wobbling sound. I'm not sure if it's viable or if I need a really bigass piece of metal for such a thing. There's a ton of them kicking around, and they just toss 'em when they're spent, so the thought struck me.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
You have just given me a righteous idea. My Dad is a printer and they have old plates coming out of their ass and I need something to build my preamp test box in and I'm too much of a cheap ass to spend $20 on a chassis just to drill holes all over the fucker

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
The big Agfa ones are pretty manly. You could construct something from them. Obviously they're not suitable for a pedal enclosure or anything of that nature as they're not thick enough, but they have a fair bit of substance to them. They should be burlier than Chris's rabbit tins, at least. I work for a large commercial printer and the press room isn't far from my office (also, cutting through there is the quickest way to the facilities ) and there's a big stack of these guys just sitting there. I'm all like "hmm... sheet metal... "

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
And for the hell of it, I humored my drummer last night and copied one of his parts note-for-note with SD2. I'm going to try and mix it tonight and see what I can come up with.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I just went on a fact finding mission Re: plate reverbs. Dimensions of the plate EMT used are about four foot by eight foot, and only about 24ga/0.5mm/.020in. In other words, fucking massive, but fucking thin. I read many nerdwords about how the steel used is utterly important and how you need to source special transducers and shit or else it won't work right. Then i came across this page: http://www.bsidebeats.com/how-to-make-a-plate-reverb/Which of course is much more my style. And actually, sounds surprisingly good in the clips. Would be a very interesting effect to have on drums for instance. Is it proper EMT quality, maybe not. But for my porpoises, it seem pretty fucking sweet. In fact, if i can find a big enough, thin enough, metal sheet, i am going to reporpoise a bedframe and just fucking do it.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
There's little spring reverbs in our maps. I like how those sound too. I'd totally like an outboard spring reverb.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I would use it on snares and stuff, coming out of my interface.
First I'd have to make a thread asking you how to do this...
