The Fuzz Factory...
..Is Fucking Awesome and every one of you pigs needs one.
It makes an awful lot of noise, and as a result my first impression was that it was sort of only a novelty noisemaker - still awesome, mind you, just not terribly useful.
Well, after spending a lot more time with it, and learning its ways some, i have to say, that it is totally flexible enough to use for lots of different things. AND, most of the crazy noise settings can be adjusted to keep the thing just barely under control so it gates down when you aren't playing.
I haven't yet experimented with it through my tubey map, but at reasonable volumes with my practice amp, it is very interesting and fucked up, but not sooo fucked up that it cannot be controlled. Actually, considering how fucked up it is, it is surprising how easy it is to control.
That is all.

Re: The Fuzz Factory...
I believe I must make this. Chris, what resources did you use for this build? The layouts on DIYstompbox and such, or did you just mastermind up your own FF?

yes, do tell. I would love to have time to build, but do not. I might employ one of you cocksuckers to build me such device.

Re: The Fuzz Factory...
I actually found this layout lying around on my old HDD, and liked its tinyness, as that is basically what i was going to aim for in drawing up my own anyhow: I don't even know where it came from, maybe a dood named Torchy who used to do lots of excellent layouts, but he usually put his name on them, so i don't know.

Re: The Fuzz Factory...
Juh...yeaaahh? Kind of? It can do a pretty good "normal" sort of fuzz. And it can even get a reasonable maxed out sustain Big Muff approximation going on, but even at the more well behaved settings, it has a little bit of its own edge to it. Like, if you had no choice, you could get a standard oldschool fuzz-ish sort of sound out of it, but if oldschool fuzz was all you needed, you might be better off going with something else. Maybe later like tomorrow or something i will do up a ghetto clip.

Re: The Fuzz Factory...
I think I will just stick to a normal fuzz. I just want fat singing fuzzzzzzez. That paired with that Micro POG with the octave up cranked with a little sub octave going would be schweet.

Re: The Fuzz Factory...
Yeah, you could get the FF to do it, but you might get more the sounds you want out of a regular old fuzz face or a tonebender, or something, depending on what flavor of vintage fuzz you want. Eric, on the other hand, i think, would be all about what the Fuzz Factory brings to the fuzz table.

Re: The Fuzz Factory...
You're most likely right. I am much more of a proponent of vintage-y fuzzes for my own purposes.
But I like what Eric and Billy Corgan do with teh crazyfuss.

Re: The Fuzz Factory...
I wanted one for a good long time, until I discovered the Geiger Counter. Alas, the Geiger Counter they wanted $240 shipped for is no longer in the HCFX Spam Thread now that I have the money to buy it. In the meantime, I could build one of these...

Re: The Fuzz Factory...
The Geiger Counter is crazy, for sure. One of the relatively few expensive boutique pedals that is pretty close to actually worth what they get for it, IMO, due to what it offers being strange and uniquely (and well) executed. The Fuzz Factory is awesome in a kind of a different way to me, because it IS so simple, and yet the sounds it can make do not really seem at times like they could come out of something so simple. Then again, with even the Vexter going for just shy of $200 or so, i don't think i would buy an actual Vex one. But for folks with DIY leanings, it is a pretty slick toy.

Re: The Fuzz Factory...
I think I'll pick up parts for this tomorrow when I'm out with my BFF if I get the chance to swing by Rat Shack for a moment while we're out buying hair dye.
What to use for an enclosure...

Toan. I just wasn't able to find any settings that I found usable.

Re: The Fuzz Factory...
Hmm. Interesting. It seems to cover a lot of ground for me. I was able to get something interesting with it pretty quickly, but i didn't fully grasp what the thing would do for me until i started checking out some of the cheatsheets that folks who have spent a lot more time with it than i, have compiled. The two pages of settings in this thread: http://acapella.harmony-central.com/sho ... ?t=1376352 are actually pretty interesting. There were a couple there that i had not stumbled across before in my knob twiddling. I also find that it responds really well to having a thick OD/distortion placed after it. It can really bring out some funky octave down and arpeggiating noises. Then again, i certainly did not pay what Vex gets for them, either, which helps.

That man sure does know how to charge a lot for a pedal. Not that he is any particularly bad offender in the area, he is just particularly skilled.
