Post Re: Room Micing Test
I read about getting mics in phase awhile back. I can't find the link. But what I have been doing is setup the mics, get the proper level. Then let's say fader1 goes to mic1 and fader2 goes to mic2. Pull fader2 down all the way. Play and push fader2 up and watch your stereo bus meters. If when applying fader2 both meters continue to rise then the mics are in phase with each other. If the meters start to dip when fader2 is being applied than the mics aren't in phase. I have also cheated and have gone back to the recorded wavs and nudged one wav to try and match up the peaks with the other wav.

Sorry, you might already know all this but thought I'd mention it because the mics in the first recording could of been slightly out of phase with each other. The second recording sounded so robust, I'm thinking all the mics were in phase. I could be wrong as usual.

Great sounds anyway!

Trust me, as per evidence from my previous recording posts, I don't know much.

This sounds like a sensible trick I should try though.

Put the OM2 off axis.

Also, this and the last clip were both recorded with the strat neck pickup with the tone knob rolled almost completely off ... not intentionally but the results were fine enough.

So far, my favorite is the second clip, the 990 on the grill and the OM-2 back and on-axis. That may change in a mix or with you playing around with the 57 more.

Question:

Where do you guys usually put your 57's?

I usually have mine aimed in between the dust cap and the edge of the cone. YMMV.

This, usually at a 45º angle, an inch or two back.

If whatever else doesn't work, try this. If this doesn't work, turn the knobs. If that doesn't work, the problem is probably somewhere between the guitar and the strap.

Fuller sounding, with nicer top end, too. :tu: Clearer in the lows than #2, I think, too. Needs drums and bass. :red:

If I re-recorded this to a click, would anyone want to take a crack at some drummy drums for it?

I do love to record those drums, but I believe chris' drum vibe is the correct choice for your song. :huzzah:

Everyone on the forum should do it IMO, like a reverse drumjam.

The programmers could program, and the players could play.

That's a pretty gnarly idea.

I could play around with the minimal drum micing setups that I find so terribly interesting.
