Re: GAMER THREAD, the new fuckin
I would love to get BFBC2 and see if this laptop would play it smoothly enough.
Actually, there is a whole pile of games that i want to try out. The most recent one i bought was fucking Medal Of Honor: Airborne, like a thousand years ago.
I need a jab for to assume vidjo game acquisitionability.
I wish I haz gaming PC. Alas, I am a console only man right now. If I am on the PSN yet I would be: Tron, Devtron, or Devtron C.
When I have a gaming/recording PC, I will be back on Steam a lot. I play a lot of TF2.

Maybe look into something like the Asus UL80vt. It has a switchable videocard. On the onboard video it gets 8 hrs plus on the battery. On the discrete video, it gets less battery life, but is capable of running a lot of modern games at low to medium settings, anyhow. Better than your typical portable laptop anyhow.
Also, it is an older model, so there are probably more laptops like it out now, but i haven't been looking since i got my laptop (a different Asus) in January or so, so i don't know what there is now.
Why would some one choose a gaming desktop over an 360 or ps3?

Because PC games are often better, and generally have more content for them like mods and shit?
And when games are available on multiple platforms, they tend to look better and run better on PCs, in addition to often having more content available to them?
And controlling games like FPSs without a mouse and keyboard is weak?
And a gaming computer also makes a great recording computer?
etc.?
For a certain type of gaming consoles are great. But, not all types are even covered by them. For instance, there is not a single hardcore driving simulator available for any console.
Show me a hardcore driving game for the computer...

Hardcore PC driving sims would be like: netKarPRO, Grand Prix Legends, RFactor, Live For Speed, GTR, GT Legends, Richard Burns Rally, that sort of thing.
Most of them suck a LOT to play without a 900º FFB wheel and pedals, and some of them won't even run without one.
It is a fairly limited/small nerd market, that the consoles haven't really spent much time with. The closest they have gotten would be like Forza 3, Gran Turismo 4, Colin McRae Dirt2, and just a couple others. But all of those have pretty sizable failings for "sims", mainly with tire models, and with grip levels being too high, or with unrealistic slip ratios.
Yes, i am a nerd.
But that is the biggest reason, that i went PC instead of console. I actually used to build cars for a couple of the, now somewhat outdated, older sims. Actually, one of my early car models, wound up making its way into an rFactor mod:
I still haven't even driven it in that though, as i got out of that whole scene before the mod was released.
I used to own road rash. Fuck that was such a classic game especially playing it on a 90's Macintosh

I have actually been checking out Asus for little while now. I will probably go with a Ul or U series with an i3 processor. Thank you though

In terms of sheer processing power, i have over 3x the CPU power, and nearly 2x the graphics processing power of an Xbox360.
I can run games at higher resolution, with more particles and shading, and better antialiasing, better transparency and reflections, at MUCH higher framerates than a ps3 or xbox can.
Furthermore, i can mod my pc, change it to do what i like, as well as use it for everyday things. Games are sometimes cheaper on pc than xbox (usually by $5-10), and there are more frequent sales due to Steam.
Regarding FPS, the controls are FAR more precise. Last week, microsoft scrapped the idea of making inter-platform play between the Xbox and PC, because they teamed up their paid professional xbox team against some "mediocre" pc players, and the xbox team had their asses handed to them; and they attributed it to control interface.
Now for a niche market like a racing simulator, its nice to have peripherals (like a wheel and pedals, or even a usb xbox controller) so you can have variable pressure on your turns. Same thing goes for flight simulators. However, the biggest selling, and heaviest played games these days are all FPS. I actually have steam stats for you . Wierd, today CS 1.6 is at the top of the list, usually team fortress 2 is around 50-60k people, and source comes in second, followed by MW2 and then BFBC2. Eh i guess it depends on the day.
Current Players Peak Today Game
25,916 56,341 Counter-Strike 25,192 58,583 Counter-Strike: Source 21,381 59,717 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Multiplayer 16,313 20,657 Team Fortress 2 8,604 16,869 Alien Swarm 7,452 11,543 Left 4 Dead 2 7,034 19,021 Football Manager 2010 6,429 8,171 Garry's Mod 3,948 6,834 Empire: Total War 3,822 5,211 Battlefield: Bad Company 2
And finally, since i built my own computer, my warranty extends further than the xbox. All of my parts are warrantied for 3 years from the manufacturer. If one thing fails, I RMA it and get a new one back in the mail. An xbox is warrantied for 1 year, and any more you have to pay for. If your xbox fails, you have to send the WHOLE thing back. I keep spare parts around so i never have to go without my computer. And i dont like PS3 games. All of the exclusives that i have played have been poops.
Oh and have you heard of 3dVision or NV surround or eyefinity? Shits nuts. I'll never be able to afford it hahaha.

I can't afford to purchase nice gaming periphs like a good mouse or keys.
Mainly just because I couldn't blame my n00b skills on, "an unfair equipment advantage."
