I probably wouldn't hate it were I in Anchorage, higher population and less camo. I'd also have things to do on the weekends other than get wasted and play guitar, though this is fairly awesome weekend activity. Working 64 hour weeks probably aren't helping much either. But my hate remains strong.

So fall seems to have kicked in with full force and has got me reconsidering staying here for longer. It's absolutely pissing it down with relentless fury. I went to buy beer (<2 minute walk each way) and had to change clothes when I got back as they're that soaked. Weather forecast for the next week is rain with 2 days of "cloud and sunny intervals" - UK weather is at least a bit drier than this

And Geoff, I hope so. It'd be hilarious. And once again it's unintentional, but I'll leave it up and see what happens

Umbrella's fine for walking, not so fine for trying to ride a bike with, which is my main priority I'm off to buy waterproofs tomorrow anyway. Still got about 20 days left til the bike park closes so I need to make the most of it regardless of the weather.

I did mean to buy some bear mace but even after a few close encounters, I ain't skeered of (small) black bears The most they've done so far has been to look up at me and then happily go back to whatever they be nomming 'pon. Or they run away as I fearlessly stride through like a boss.

I need to accept the fact these songs are gonna take 12+ hours a piece to get a decent mix, and that I need to do at least four iterations of the thing in that time period, at least two of which will not be presentable. Trent Reznor/Martin Gore + Flood + Alan Moulder I am emphatically not. But good goddamn I will try and fake it.

Chris's comment re: perceived mix quality = drum fidelity, largely, rings true. Garda's Knives is going on the Best Of Buffalo compilation. I can say quite matter-of-factly that my current Asshole Iteration I sounds clearer and more defined than the old OTB-nothing-but-high-end-hardware version. But it sounds flat and thin. I tried using Graphite as a sonic template, briefly, complete with plugin settings, but hey, what do you know, we don't use the same sounds at all from song to song, what with being an electroband and all. I need to convince myself I didn't waste four hours of my life.

Also, I think I'mma add a real bass guitar and bring in the synth bass only in parts. And while I love that Valley People limiter to kill the everfucking fuck out of drums, it is brutal übersquash in extremis.

That being said, destroying the 909 kick until it turns into a secondary bass line is fucking awesome. (I need to make that cut through somehow.) The drums (counting the Maschinebïtz), solo-ed, are monstrous if only I lay off the snare compression a bit. All the pretty grrls and bois will be shaking their pretty booties to this as they are generally wont to do. I think I need to rejigger the drum machine track as a stereo bounce is not fucking cutting it re: sonic separation.

Nothing says "extreme self-loathing" like setting one's self to an impoceros task, on a deadline, because it is the only thing you find value and meaning in.

Lyrics and melodies are beginning to form for some songs I have written.. I am really proud of what I have been producing here.. Musically it's very much a quiet verse thing with big fat chorus writing style. I am excited to share with the class but I remain computerless..

If my department wasn't short-staffed at the moment I would have done the same. It's been a shitty week all around. If it can break or fail, it has, within the past week and a half, to epic proportions.
