If you get shitty service, then *maybe* skip the tip, but don't go back and expect better service, or no bodily fluids in your food...
If you get good/normal service, tip the fucking 15%(at least). Though it is not listed on the menu as part of the price, the owner of the place considers it as if it is there, and they pay the waiters/waitresses as if it is there. When you don't tip, you *are* fucking the waiters over. If they are bad at there job and you want to fuck them over, go ahead, but don't go back there and expect them not to be pissed. | | | | |
Yeah I tip when it's deemed appropriate but I don't like doing it and I don't think they should complain about it - don't like it then get another job that pays better I don't think tipping is as big a thing over here but it's still done at restaurants. Not at bars or takeout places though.

Yeah you're probably right. I mean that's the speech the male one gave us. They had this jukebox though, and it had metal songs in it, so my toonies ended up elsewhere.

 Re: The Chris Thread
Servers here are, last I checked, still exempt from minimum wage*. To not tip in The States is a big social faux pas. At best it's very rude; it's usually "fuck you!" for fucking up an order or being a dick. It's assumed that one will; it's built into the price and the wages of the servers. (Depending on your locale, they are frequently either students or can't find better jobs, because oftentimes there are no jobs.)
The European conventions on tipping are different. It's largely AFAIK uncommon and generally unexpected. They, again, AFAIK, just actually pay the servers. American tourists tip in Europe and Europeans think they're suckers. Europeans don't tip in America, Americans think they're haughty.
It's part social convention, and part that said social convention was built around the fact America has fucked-up labor laws built around a century-long culturally ingrained fear of "socialism" (a word that to Americans often means Leninist (that guy was a severe asshole) Soviet faux-Communism as that's what it's acquired in what passes for political discourse here) that causes poor and middle-class white people to vote against their class interest. Labor or the left hasn't been a potent force in American politics for decades; here we have a conservative party and a reactionary party, and the way we treat workers reflects that.
*- Now, I haven't dug into this one, but I'm suspecting that since these positions were often (and still are) held by women or black people this might just a little bit have factored into this.
But that's a rant. In short, if you're in North America, tip yer server.

I am a fucking hobo, and i also do at least 20%. 15% is definitely the minimum to do for average service.

 Re: The Chris Thread
I tipped 20% when I was in Canada, hence why I only ate at a restaurant probably twice tipping well on beers over there is worth it for getting served quicker.

I usually pay cash at bars ad throw the bartender $1 per drink, always get served quickly and doesn't cost too much (as I don't drink too much )

 Re: The Chris Thread
That exchange proved the power of this crew: we can take an inherently off-topic thread and derail even that and make it on-topic, albeit briefly. Now, here is a man with a fine suit and hat, some sort of motorized quadracycle, and a belt-fed machine gun. This is what this thread is about, dammit. Class and quality, and that brings both to the yard. Y'know, that image pretty well sums up the residents of this place. That's roughly where we're coming from and what we're on about. A+ post, would view again, highly recommended.

 Re: The Chris Thread
The Silver Lining, The Spider Webs! An unexpected side-effect of the flooding in parts of Pakistan has been that millions of spiders climbed up into the trees to escape the rising flood waters. Because of the scale of the flooding and the fact that the water has taken so long to recede, many trees have become cocooned in spiders webs. People in this part of Sindh have never seen this phenome...non before but, they also report that there are now far fewer mosquitoes than they would expect, given the amount of stagnant, standing water that is around. It is thought that the mosquitoes are getting caught in the spiders web, thus, reducing the risk of malaria, which would be one blessing for the people of Sindh, facing so many other hardships after the floods...!!!
