I love these underground bands that only release their stuff on tape or vinyl, yet their stuff was obviously recorded on a computer and can be heard online in mp3 form.

Are we talking "Pod XT Pro and SD2/Slate fakedrums" level of obvious here?
This makes me want to freight-ship my 16 channel Tascam deck up to Canadia so someone makes filthmetal properly. Even then, that's a good sounding deck, big fat bass and drums... so peg the meters.

In this case it was obvious EZ Drummer drummage.
I swear, the amount of bad EZDrummer usage makes me want to write a rant about it as Someone From The '90s. We had SR-16s and DR-660s and the like and we made do. I used the drums off my QS6 (and still do for some electronic stuff). Kids These Days, they get way better samples and greater tweakage depth than we had (okay, you can tweak the old Boss stuff more than you think, but...) and they still just use the same stock shit. These things have way more to them than any of these dickheads will ever use, and in the right hands can sound convincingly good.
...and were they making cassette dubs of their friend's Anthrax CD in 1994? Were they born in 1994?

I wish they recorded the drummer instead. They wouldn't have had to try too hard, considering the genre. There's actually a big movement right now for metal that doesn't sound good, doesn't sound 'necro', just sounds raw, and interesting...
They are from here, and they are the top of the heap (coming from other now defunct bands) as far as the metal scene here goes.
Oh lawdy. That's definitely stock EZDrummer The cymbals really grate on me, I think I've been using EZ for too long so I just hear it as the "noob cannon" of home recording. Or maybe it just shows I don't tweak it enough to stop hearing such sounds.

Will check out once I snag my 'phones from the other room.
I'm vaguely aware of that backlash-trend- hell, I'm part of it, on-and-off. And I understand where it's from, and how it got there, thinking "wow, this sounds badass!" hearing underground metal records start to sound polished-good some years back.
Metal, by its nature and its audience has this real left-brain thing going on that demands precision and perfection, or an ideal thereof and that spilled over into production values, and all of a sudden metal sounded like a bad dancepop (and I like dancepop) record in how it was stuffed into a box. And IMO it loses that visceral thing, that aggression and emotion that makes it just as legitimate an artform as anything else that came from the greater rock-and-roll tradition (or anything else... one can take the roots of that back as far as you'd like.)
It ties in to my statement that DI guitars and programmed drums, all clean and clear as could be, are The New Sound Of "Local". You can't buy feeling, attitude, character at Guitar Center. It's a fine writing or demo-ing or practicing tool. As fine as could be; it sounds like real gear, it sounds inspiring there...
In an album context, I'm all "what did you say?" most of the time. (Some people make it work, pull it off, because their sound is based around that. Subbing for a live band when there's five guys is almost invariably weak. One-man or electronic projects can do this easily and it affords them/us chances we wouldn't have had, assuming we can write.) I don't want to hear Turd Polish, and to make a good band sound like that is insulting. Now, granted, I've polished a few and will likely continue to do so as long as I retain consciousness.
Metal's an interesting case in that there's obvious reasons for- the whole left-brain tech-geek thing- and against- the violent, aggressive, off-the-rails emotive nature of the stuff.
Gotta admit, hearing In Flames' Whoracle or Grip Inc.'s Nemesis when they came out was like... Woah. And by current standards those aren't even that polished; tape and live drums, oddball guitar sounds, they just had a girth and gloss to them, they weren't dirty underground-sounding records.

Got a better paid temporary part time job today Didn't even have to interview, just took my app form in, the guy said "well you seem fine, come in on Tuesday for training" and handed me the contracts
Apparently I am going to be medicated again for the first time in like, 3 years. Never been on anti-depressants.. This all stemmed from a long-winded conversation I had with my mom when she was asking why I was so negative and "why I don't appreciate her". You're just not supposed to spill the beans that you see yourself possibly committing suicide in 10 years.
I suppose I would feel weird sharing this information with any group other than this board, but I think everyone here has their own bag of issues so it's really just another piece of normal information.

Not a bad find. Apparently it belonged to my housemate's ex-housemate's boyfriend. Shrug. Mine now! Threw it in with some rice and beans. Spicy shizzle fer sure.

I've wanted to make a song called 'Krokodil Shuffle', about that zombifying Russian scag.
I am cool with this. I have the time to play on shit now too.
Re: my comment in the What Are You Listening To? thread, I really need to write more for the sake of singing more. I've grown enamored of it- I got hooked on the stuff when I was in the service? Of the three covers we do, I sing lead on two of them- Personal Jesus and Bloodletting, so I can indulge my theatrical-blues fetish. The former is so monotone vocally, I fucked with the melody as it really is a straight-up blues song, and turned it into showoff histrionics hitting really high and low notes in the chorus. The latter I actually want to record as our version's fucked up.
On an unrelated note, I haven't had caffeine in several days. I also hate to say it, but as much as I'd want to, I don't see myself kicking the booze anytime soon. No reason to save for money, really. Severely overactive brain, massive emotional problems and, well, my life is fucked. I tend not to get really drunk anymore, as I've been turning into a weepy mess when I do. I also tend not to be dead sober either, to the point where I can't really differentiate unless I feel either really pissy and mean (sober*) or totally unmotivated (too much), and either of those could be me being seriously depressed and a total asshole anyhow.
*-There's levels/layers. It's funny. I always hated how I felt, or how I'd react to things, because it wasn't me, or rather wasn't the person I envisioned myself being. Large portions of my brain need to be shut off for me to be as barely functional as I am.
On a related-to-the-unrelated note, I've seen and talked with my housemate more in the past week than I have in the past several months combined. She's an old friend, and I am fond of her company; one of the few people who could (and does) understand and put up with me. She is very heavily medicated and it shows. (She confesses to missing the really low lows and has considered stopping the antidepressants to feel like herself again... The mood stabilizers she admits without she's eff'd, same boat as me. I could definitely lose both the suicidal ideation and the violent mood swings and really not be too irked about it for a good long while; it only prevents me from accomplishing anything.)

This faggot blasts the heat on max power and keeps the windows closes when I'm gone so that the room is a veritable desert, and just tonight I come back and he's up at 6 am watching documentaries about building materials.
I hate this kid.
