Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Extra teeth are metal. A friend of mine sent me some tracks to edit earlier as he didn't have the time. They're drum machine tracks that are getting replaced in a session he's playing drums on. I had to edit the drum machine to the grid; they were done with a hardware drum machine (using the onboard sequencer, I would assume) and drifted pretty severely to the point if you just let the thing run it's playing a counter-rhythm with the click for a bit before it veers off into just sounding off again. I can honestly say I've never done that before.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Yeah, it was pretty strange. Like, I know there's some drift on hardware drum machines, especially older ones, when you're not using them as a sound module for computer-based sequencing, but I wouldn't have expected this. My first thought starting out was just that I was told the wrong BPM for the tempo, but it lined up for a bit, and over the course of things the drift on the tracks just added up. I chopped them into four-bar chunks and lined up those chunks to start every four bars and then went from there. So now my friend can have his click and cues at the proper tempi , the d00d engineering the session won't be all LOLWUT? and all is right with the world.
That's one of the more curious things I've had to do, gotta say.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
This is why time sync is such a big deal with hardware shit. Clocks get wiggy when left to their own devices, especially when the product is then introduced to a completely foreign clock and expected to make nice. Making nice, is not how clocks roll.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Apparently! I took a few stabs at the one before figuring, correctly, it was easier and quicker to hack it up into bits that, by themselves, were mostly on and go from there. Otherwise there was some really odd time expansion and compression glitching going on the farther in you got, which, while cool, was probably... Not suitable for the material.

Yeah that's pretty strange... never heard of a drum machine that can't keep time before. Funny thing is I could probably keep better time than that drum machine. And my timing is one of the worst things about my guitar playing...

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
It's in time, -ish, with itself. Just not exactly to what tempo it was set to. The clocks in hardware drum machines were never great, not compared to running them off a computer via MIDI, which itself isn't as dead-nuts-on as software synths and samplers, but still a lot closer than the internal sequencer on an oldschool drum machine. And some things are considered desirable for being a bit off but in a musical way- old Akai MPCs for example.
The situation here is that the little amount of drift from the stated tempo keeps adding up when you place it against a click in software- at the end of, say, sixteen bars you're obviously not lining up with, say, 115 BPM (to use an example) or whatever the tempo was. In terms of accuracy to the assigned tempo, a sloppy drummer (or guitarist, etc.) would have been closer in that they're at least trying to... Color inside the lines. Where this is mechanically off just that little bit each time, and that accumulates.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Are you guys taking a serious hit in the cash dollas for only doing the one set? You should do a second set with Dizzy and a guy dressed as Buckethead and play Chinese Democracy.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I live in Washington state, our laws are liberal as fuck. You go into one of these marijuana clinics and go in there and tell them you have any of the symptoms qualified as a marijuana treatable ailment and you will receive one of these medical marijuana prescriptions. My "symptoms" are actually legitimate; anxiety, depression and lack of appetite. I mean, as legitimate as one can be. But I hear about people going in there with a total crock of shit story and still get the card. I take it for what it is, a get out of jail free card. If I am not caught in the act of smoking weed in public or while operating my vehicle I flash the card at the po-po were they to realize I have weed and we part ways in peace. Withholding I have 2 or less pounds on me. Anymore and things can get sticky.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
And while I have been smoking bud picked up from dispensaries for a good long time now, going into them is the most incredible experience. There's a really new local one that's modeled after a prohibition speakeasy owned and run by this much younger, hip dude (these shits are typically staffed by younger peepz and owned by older motherfuckers) that's sick as fuck. Cool black and checkered tile with some sweet shit done on the walls, big club hand painted branding, "HypeHerbally Cannabis Club". I see myself getting to by homies with the dude, which means fat hookups for me. It is a pretty bizarrely awesome little mini-culture.
