If I may ask, what, precisely, do you do in Alaska anyhow? Are you building a ziggurat? Are you fighting moose and grizzly bears with your bare hands? I get the impression it involves moving portions of Alaska to other portions of Alaska.

Well, the previous two years I would have told you: My work crew and I renovate old military housing from the 50s and 60s that is no longer up to safety spec. They get completely overhauled, inside and out. Our job is to install the EIFS system (Exterior Insulated Finish System) onto the pre-existing exterior. This involves adhering a layer of construction foam that could range from 2-6" thick depending on the application, rasping said foam down to a uniform and porous state (these old buildings are superfuckingwarped and shifty) and applying a layer of basecoat (a concrete/polymer mix) thats main purpose is waterproofing that sort of contains/sandwiches some fiberglass mesh. For the first 10 feet of elevation we have to apply both standard mesh and superbr00tz Panzer mesh that is sent straight from hell. Over the top of that goes the finish, which is a polymer material with aggregate suspended in that shit. The aggregate gives it texture, and depending upon the type, there may be multiple sizes (for example: quartputz). AHHHHHHH FUCK YEAH.

But this year we are NOT on the base, and we are doing original construction. So things are going to be a little different.

And I am a laborer, so I mix the basecoat and finish (which requires more skill than one would think if you want to keep your plasterers happy) and carry/pully that shit to them. As well as bringing them whatever materials they may need to complete their job. Might be tools, food, cigarettes, whatthefuckever. But the main function of my job is mud mixing, which is a fairly fucking frustrating job. I have to adjust the thickness of the basecoat to weather conditions, application, plasterer's preference or whatever else. Each year (including Oregon the year before my first trip to Alaska), I mix approximately 1,000 buckets of basecoat. Depends on the footage, which varies slightly.

Anyways, now ya muh fuckas know.

I'm assuming "superbr00tz Panzer mesh" is trademarked by the developers of... Y'know, I can't come up with a decent alternate meaning for EIFS off the top of my head... But if it's not, it should be.

Extremely Irritating Fucking Shit, perhaps, if we're speaking only of sludgemixing? Too easy, though; not very clever. That's gonna bother me until someone comes up with a good one.

Your version of the acronym is perfect, as the Panzer mesh will indeed irritate the fuck out of your skin if it comes into contact with it.

And you know, I shouldn't make it sound like I don't enjoy mixing mud, because I do. I am good at it (which sounds sort of silly) and it's kind of therapeutic once you've got it down pat. But it takes me a few weeks before I can get into a groove. Also, we are using the pump this year (a pump for shooting the mud onto the wall, we used one my first season) and that makes working fun and challenging cause you have to keep up with that motherfucker.

I am excited for Alaska this year, I will be very productive musically, methinks. Also, Alex's band will be playing a house show in Fairbanks some time late July, so I am stoked for that.

I might go with the fine shards one if i had a company that specialized in siding/insulation supplies. Though the one referencing Safety does have a certain raises-more-questions-than-it-answers-and-why-are-they-so-eager-to-say-it-is-so-safe-anyhow sort of quality to it.
