It actually has me thinking that a push-pull 12au7-based high gainer might actually fly.
For recording, that is a very impressively JCM800-like sound, IMO.
The price is high($750ish) but the concept is sound and totally reproducible via DIY means. I would be curious to see exactly what they have going on inside the thing, but conceptually it seems that it could be quite simple indeed. I only wonder if they had to mess with coupling cap and PI values to get it to sound "right" for its smallness. Or if indeed, it just worked with the original circuit.

Yarr, he also put up a vid of the 1 watt JMP, but that one sounded much less proper amp, and much more "1 watt amp".
I am impressed by how believable this is as a JCM sound.

Yo, here is the JMP demo:
Much more mushy and less awesome. Just sounds like a smaller amp to me.

...have a map that doesn't have to be face-raping loud to sound half-decent?
...and I agree; I'd take the mini-800 before the mini-JMP. (even though I'd probably take a JMP over an 800, if only for the sexier headshell. I did like my '76 JMP quite a bit though.) It sounds moar like the bigger map to me, at least in the clip. Are these properly released yet, so I can go to GC or another decent-sized guitar store and bitch about everything wrong with them in person to my IRL nerdfriends?
Listening back to both again, the mini-800 is sooo much tighter. And I like lower-wattage maps, and loose, saggy not-particularly-modern sounding gain toans, but the tiny JMP doesn't have that edge-of-detonation quality I like from such things- again, at least, in this clip- where the mini-JCM 800 really does sound like something a lot heftier than it is.

As far as i am aware, they are out for realz, BUT, they are a fairly limited release, so i don't know how many of them are going to make it to the stores. I forget the numbers on how many of each they were making, but it wasn't a fucktonne.

What would be awesome, would be if they DID do a full mass production run of at least one of them, and priced them in the dirtcheap (sub $2-300) range.
But it is Marshall so they won't.
Maybe Behringer will pick up the concept and make it happen.

Dude, fuck, my broke ass would buy one. Especially three months later after HCAF had their fill of them.
And hey, Behringer did clone the JCM 900 Dual Reverb, for reasons unknown to neither man nor beast, so...

They also make the Marshall plexi copy as well.
If anyone is going to rip off these 1w JCMs, it is them.
Hell, i just looked and they actually also make a $700 tube SVT copy looking thing.
(which by the way, is kind of extra impressive, given that merely a sextet of 6550/KT88s will run about $200 all by itself)
