Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Yeah $350 then most MGR charge $50 shipping on guits and amps.
I asked for a case and he said he didn't have one, just a gig bag. So I argued there is no way shipping on a light guitar and a gig bag should be $50. He said since he didn't have a good case to ship it in he'd still give me the gigbag but ship it for free.
Huzzah!

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Bully! I am roasting potatoes and randomly piano-noodling. I spent a good more-than-an-hour jamming on bass earlier, just plain old electric bass, solo, not playing to anything, mostly working on speedystuff. All this makes me realize how little I actually play my guitars outside of the band as of late.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Furk, I wish I could competently play keys. I look at the Microkorg like, "I don't quite know what the fuck to do with you." I have considered taking piano lessons sometime, would be kinda cool. The chord thing is just so.. Foreign to me on that instrument. I have fiddled about with it as a few of you have heard, but I am not really in sync with the layout of the thing even though it's really quite lovelysimple/straightforward.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Perhaps try just playing along to some things, just following the chord progression? Anything will work; doesn't matter whether it has keyboards of any sort in it or not, as you're (probably) not following the keyboard line anyhow. Just to get used to chord shapes on the thing. (A chord chart may help here.)
Also: my synths are immediately accessible from my 'puter- the giant rackmount one at least. They're within arm's reach. They get played a lot (often one-handed) when I'm just sitting there on the intarwebs doing nothing particularly demanding. I've been doing this for years and years. It's good accidental practice. I wind up playing them just because they're there.

Yeah it was definitely a memorable one
Just got internet setup in the house. 30mbps down (YYYYEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH) is so much better than the shitty DSL I was working with.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
So I just got a call from my drummer. I'm not entirely sure the details, but from what I gather two of the biggest management/booking people approached us unsolicited 'cause a friend of one of them turned them on to us. The one guy owns a giant club and the other's a local radio personality. They dig us; they like the synths and that we're not "the same old guitar riff crap". They were already aware, apparently, that we're heading back to GCR (Goo Goo Dolls' bassist's studio) in October as they, well, spoke to him about it. So they did their research, I guess. I know who the guys are; they're legit. This, potentially, means a lot bigger & better shows- and outside of Buffalo/Rochester, too. We may be meeting with them at rehearsal on Tuesday. This could be very good news. We'll see. If nothing else, they've already hooked us up with a quality show the weekend before Christmas. And they don't care we're not exactly young (it seems they would prefer to work with people who've been around the block a time or two), which is a plus, and are cool with the dark image and lyrical content. If they want to promote the shit out of us, I am alright with this.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Donkeyshave. Seven-day work weeks do, to quote our own Cameron Hell, suck the ol' dickass. The bass is sweet though- I usually prefer "vintage" or off-white/creme finishes to stark raving white, but for whatever reason it works on the P-Bass with the black guard. And, of course, awaiting yer report on the P-Bass when it arrives. The intarwebs have said nothing but good things about the recent Squier stuff for a while now, and the one guy at the guitar store near my house (who knows a thing or two about basses) swears they're actually nicer than most MIM Fenders these days. So I'm curious what you wind up thinking of it.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Yep I've played a few in shops and liked em, so gonna take the punt and order online just because the price is so much better. Risk getting a shit'un but I'm cheap To be honest I don't think my opinion on a bass will matter as I haven't got a "feel" for how a good one should play or sound. They all feel huge to me with their widely spaced thick strings. I would prefer vintage white as well.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
The new Squiers (their higher end at least) are awesome.
I'd put my J. Mascis JM up against the standard MIM line anyday. If anything their weakness is their electronics, which can also be said of the MIMs so that's kind of a wash.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Electronics as in the pickups, or electronics as in the pots/jacks/wiring? Or both? Which doesn't matter a hell of a lot anyhow if the thing plays well and is not a completely dead and lifeless sounding chunk of wood; 's the most likely thing to get swapped out.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Pickups are more a matter of taste, I'd say they are decent enough (I have made a few clips of the JM and it recorded just fine) quality and COULD stay put. Though, most would swap them for something more vintage flavored I suppose. The pots and switches seem fine enough quality, so I would say it is the wiring that really lacks. Mine is a bit noisy, the pickup selector and lead/rhythm switches are a bit spotty and sometimes have to be flicked a bit from time to time. All of this smacks of not-the-best wiring, which makes sense based on the cheap labor used. Chances are down the road I would replace the pickups and all the wiring, but I'd also do that for most MIMs (I've had a standard strat and tele).

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I can attest that Devin's JM is a damn quality guitar, stays in tune well with some whammy abuse and has a real comfy neck. Good shit. I really want a trem'd guitar myself, but I would have to get rid of some of my old ones that I neverever use.
