If you're going to go DI, DI everything. It fucks with things too badly otherwise. DI both guitars and the bass, and you get a really clean mix. Everything is set-and-forget now, and it's great. I was told, despite the monitaurs being knackered, the mix out front was excellent. (No shit, 'cause it's just balancing the drum kit and the vocal mics!) It definitely speeds up setup/breakdown. For the time being we have two racks with a laptop on top; my Pod and the bassist's Sansamp are on the floor. Ideally we'd like something like three 11Rs in a rack (the AxeFXs being too rich for our blood- well; not for Chris's; he's talking about a Kemper! Which I sorta want him to get vs. the Axe just so I can hear/play one.) which would mean less cabling, but still, my rig fits into my laptop bag and our bassist's fits into a bass case!

The mix in the room while rehearsing with everything DIed took a little getting used to, but good goddamn is everything clear. The IEMs we found were impractical for live work without a consistent Live Sound d00d, so wedges it is. And without the vocals being run through our rig, if we're doing the DI submix thing, basically impossible sans wedges. So we're living with the wedges, and it works. And well.



Oh, I am a classy individual. There's a song I count off with "one-two-mother-fucker!" and I threw a "hail Satan" in there as well. No "thank you- we hate you all!" this time though. I'd like to use the "ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, please rise for the national anthem" some time, but I feel bad as it's not my line.

As it stands right now, it is 5:40-something on a Sunday morning, and I am in the sweltering heat at my house which given its location has no air circulation (rhyming intentional) and unable to sleep. And, being the time of year that it is, it's already friggin' light out. I do not approve of this heat or light or chirping birds. I would much rather be at my ladyfriend's in the air conditioned glory, but Lord Satan disapproves of this, apparently, even though I've praised His Glorious Name onstage. On the plus side, I have much reading material to tide me over.

If it has not been made clear over the years, I am incredibly fond of cursing and offensive language. And so; I salute you.

The sentiment that there's a correlation between cursing and unintelligence and anyone who supports it has clearly never met this group of shitheads and motherfucks.

Headed home for a couple weeks tomorrow, I am pretty sure. Was trying to pick up some extra work to fill in the gap though it is very unlikely to happen at this point. It's all good though, it will be nice to go home and get some physical and mental rest. Worked a 13 hour shift yesterday and thankfully just got off a couple hours ago for a nice little half day, or half night I should say.

Timing is, after all, the essence of comedy, and meaning is derived from context. It's all about the appropriate application of a thing; when and where to insert a word (vigorously, if necessary ) into a sentence. Do it wrong and yes, you'll come across as an inarticulate buttplug.

Done right, I don't feel it's improper to borrow from the British, either: bugger, wank, toss, can't be arsed, etc. Those are quality phrases that can be incorporated into an articulate cusser's lexicon without sounding like a pretentious goatrimmer.

Also: fellates dead bears, cumdumpster, etc. Even something a little old-timey-Southern like peckerwood. Really, color is what's needed. I'm betting there's no rule specifically against my saying "polesmoker" on live television, but I'm also betting, to quote an old Loony Toons episode, the problem with this trick is that you can only do it once.

Weather has been so fucking good since I got back from holiday. So much outdoors time although I spent yesterday walking round/drinking in london in a union jack onesie for my mates brothers birthday and it was far too hot, and our hostel room was like an oven.
