Saturday I record a local hardcore band that is project/spinoff thing branching off of two fairly well known bands in the area. Dudes are cool. sXe hardcore folk, so I don't have to worry about playing being affected by drug use. I've already dealt with the hilarious flawed logic of "If we get baked and/or drunk we will play better" and that just ain't true. Riffage is sick, it's like fast youthcrew hardcore broken up by sweet mosh riffs.
Which I really only bring up because I was discussing production ideas with said persons at a show which I just returned from. Saw Terror for the third time. Also, Code Orange Kids who fucking crushed. Super heavy and terrifying mix of hardcore styles.
That chick that co-fronts the band had the best stage persona. Just really scary and awesome. That whole band goes insane for the whole set, it's great.

True dat. Writing is one thing. Actual performance is another. And there's a big difference between having a drink or a toke or two and getting shitfaced or stoned.
To quote a friend of mine, though: "I'd rather be in a band with drunks than potheads. At least with drunk people, their playing just gets shittier. Their taste in music doesn't change."

I had meself a job interview today; I have the second interview tomorrow; they were openly impressed (were it the woman who runs the print shop's decision, they'd hire me on the spot) and are basically fast-tracking the thing to get me in there. I can't complain. Maybe then I can stop selling gear?
You could really use a run of good luck. Not been the best year overall. I've seen some bad shit this year. Although not a big believer in "oh the new year will bring a whole new (insert happy disposition here) .. no fuck that, the new year is just another fucking day.. we just change the last digit on a number scheme... I will say I will not be sad to see 2013 go.
Good luck on the interview/job.

Just replaced a front wheel bearing on the MINI in the driveway, and i must say, the whole process went far too smoothly. Only took about 45 minutes total.
I guarantee that godamned wheel is going to fall off the next time i drive it anywhere.
So Europe didn't happen, but apparently we're going to Colombia to play a fest (...and I think headline?)
And I forget if I mentioned before, but for Halloween I'm going to be involved in a Tony Martin-era Black Sabbath tribute band set, as the vocalist. We had our first practice today...it sounded pretty good, despite me having a cold and having to resort to falsetto for a lot more than I normally do, and us not having anyone playing keyboards. And apparently I'm going to be tasked with playing the acoustic solo in Nightwing...which sucks, because I hate playing acoustic (At least the acoustic guitars I have.)

Who needs brakes? You can stop your car with the power of your mind. Or a large anchor.
Music related: so, I took an EQ plugin with a realtime analyzer for a spin. I wanted an effective highpass filter that would otherwise not bugger up my toans. Good goddamn, there is a lot of extraneous LF garbage muddy-ing up my traxx and preventing my bass from sitting right. Problems. Now. Removed.
It's weird where, exactly, some of this crapola is coming from. There are some obvious sources (drum OHs and room) but some less-obvious ones too. The snare, high-pitched airy synth pads that also contain infrasound!, reverb returns, all sortsa shit. It's pretty surprising just how high you can highpass stuff with the right filter, too, without losing anything useful. A -48dB/octave digital highpass can just dump all the useless stuff from a big chunky guitar without thinning it out or having to highpass up higher with a less drastic curve. Also, 808 kicks muddy up a mix right quick.

Praise BELT for Maplitonians making monies. And also, without needing be said, for keeping wheels on automobiles. Pretty much a win-win week then.

I hope by BELT you're talking about the greatest sandwich in the word, the Bacon Egg Lettuce Tomato? I would definitely praise that.
While I normally wouldn't go with anything made by Monster, I got these for free. They are definitely fantastic headphones though, shit is sounding incredible.

They look pretty good, too Just found out the offer I put in for a house has been accepted. Now to start planning the music room. How easy is it to soundproof or at least attenuate the noise coming from said room so I don't piss the neighbours off too soon?
Received Snaxie's old tube preamp (and my new one) this morning. Came with a properly batshit note, a poster and some extra t00bz. Tanx, bruddah.

Enjoy! There are a lot of toans hiding in that box.
Also, you should have some Hideous Yellow Foam™ - a fair bit of it if I'm not mistaken. May it help you on your quest. (It really is useful stuff and not just packing material.)
