As far as I am concerned, this band is doing shit The Most Right out of anyone making extreme, aggressive music right now.

This thing seriously kills. It is really weird to me that I will be able to actually ask Kurt Ballou what he did on this album.

If i was him, i would probably be pissed that a band came to me to have me record so many of my own riffs and pretend they were theirs.

Seriously. There is a point where imitation crosses over from flattery, to me. He is a nice guy though, so he may still take it as flattery/everybody-uses-everybodies-riffs-in-metal.

The sound of the thing is excellent though. Has that almost-overcompressed feel without quite getting there to the more obnoxious elements of that sort of loud.

Like, well, most of the Converge albums with those riffs on them...

Oh yeah, they are definitely 100% Converge worship. That I suppose is why I am so fond of them.

And yeah, he is great at smashing the hell out of things without ever going to far overboard. Maybe Unsilent Death is a little nutsy on the compression, but it sounds super cool so whateva.

There was definitely also some Neurosis/Isis in the middle there, but yeah, most of the good bits were fairly Converge-y.

Yeah, what of it? Production is killer, too. Done to analog tape.

First time checking this out, and it is kinda odd to hear that they went full on Nirvana on quite a few aspects of the writing and even production here. It IMO, has always been a fairly obvious mixture of Beach Boys + Nirvana. Leaning much more towards the Nirvana side of things here so far.
