That would work. Even in D with 10s, it's a pretty righteous sounding piece of kit, I've discovered. Needs fatter strings so I can tune lower.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Drop B on my bass may be my new favourite tuning. On the Ampeg SVT Classic patch it sounds so dutty. I have a fancy dress party to attend in a few weeks with the theme being "things beginning with Z" and I'm stumped. Everyone's gonna do Zombies I think so I'd like something a bit different. Zorro or Zeus will be over done as well I think Any suggestions? Me and a couple friends want to go as ZZ Top but I think we'll be explaining it all night to everyone.

Just wear half of a zebra costume and make up some story about what happened to the other half.
Or dress up as a xylophone and act surprised and angry when people tell you it isn't spelt with a z.

You could also go with dressing as a zero/zed.
Or either a zig or zag. Like basically a forward or backward slash.

Might do an orange jumpsuit/dread wig and go as Zach De La Rocha, I doubt anyone would get that though A big cardboard letter Z would be funny though

Musicians are funny in the head.
The band I guitarred in and quit due to the incompetence of one member fired that member and are doing all the footwork to replace him. I mayyy rejoin, we'll see...

This sounds familiar... What flavor of band was that, again? It occurs to me I don't know when the last time I was out on Halloween was. I do believe it predates this iteration of Maps.

Gravitational Distortion, slam death metal.
We actually just wrapped up an EP recording, I quit shortly before then but finished it with them. They are saying they will release it on a label.
It sounds very good.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Since I've been back I've acquired a 57, another i5 and just yesterday one of these ruski mics. Weird and very Russian story behind this mic. Alex and I are going to mess around tracking stuff today, gonna try it on bass. EQ curve's telling me it should be radical.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Did you not have, like, a normal 57? A pair of i5s sounds handy for drum kit and cab porpoises. I've never used the 219s. I seem to remember people liking them, but that was like 15 years ago when Good Mics Cheap™ were thin on the ground. The mic situation has changed a bit, but at least a few of the Oktavas actually went up in price beyond the rate of inflation, so they must have something going for 'em. And I'd love to hear yer Russian story. Re: bass, I left my Sansamp VT Bass in Gardaland for some tracking sessions I was unable to attend due to my grandmother having passed away, and it performed admirably to the point I think it might be the best thing for getting a bass guitar "to tape" with a minimum of fuss. Cops the SVT roundness very well; if that's your thing bass-wise, you'll find it preferable to the original Sansamp Bass DI- which is no slouch re: bass tone. We ran that and an Avid 11R in parallel with a '79 Stingray on a bunch of new Garda tracks and it sounds killer. Lord Satan knows when that'll be finished, though- I haven't even had time to copy the tracks to bring 'em home. Considering your mic locker, you need to get yerself into preamp land. This can be discussed at a later date though. Certainly my old goldface ART is worth keeping around. But there's other things to be discussed if we actually want to talk gear around here. BTW, I finally finally reinstalled my mixing tools on the new drives and have an almost-completed mix of the last song for Colin. My public apologies for having taken aeons to get to the last bit of a record that was almost done.

Unrelated: I was at a Tim Horton's earlier. There is something on the menu called the Bagel BELT. In all caps, as BELT should be. Praise be unto the mechanical bringer of .

This is fantastic. Also seeing BELT without caps seems odd

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I've hit something of a breakthrough with this recording/mixing/mastering thing. I think I am about to get a whole lot better of results.
