Ambassadors are single ply, as are the Evans G1s. A lot of the coated heads are actually single ply. Kind of a vintage vibe for heads.

Also, why do you particularly enjoy thinner bottom heads? I've not really experimented with different heads on bottoms, as I was content not to spend money on any of that if I didn't have to. Definitely time to replace the one on my Export, that shit is getting pretty fried from being put in cars.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Word, I've got a 14" G1 running around here I'd use on Colin's C&C floor tom we use as a mondo rack tom most of the time. There's an ebony Ambassador (was not aware these were single ply) on that now that sounds alright, but it's a little more clicky than I would like. I was not particularly into the G1 though either. Quite a few of the things I have around here were bought last second at the local guitar shop who's range is very limited. I think it's time to buy some nice heads for my Exports when I have a little extra scrap around. Should be starting a dishwashing job at ye olde Whole Foods quite soon.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I dig on thinner heads for the bottoms because they ring more and they work better for the way i tune the things. I feel like the bottom head needs to be there but i want it to stay out of the way as much as possible, as far as the shell ringing goes. That is just how i am about shit. I am pretty ghetto about it sometimes though too. I have totally taken a razorblade to a remo pinstripe or evans G2 to cut one of the two plys out leaving just the one superthin one.

I've found a local makerspace which has all sorts of cool shit - 3DS printers, CNC mills and routing tables and what not. This means my amp builds might not be nude for much longer

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Actually just kind of a lot of small changes. Pile of different things. Changed my snare tuning. Moved some things around. Only using three mics, but not glyn johns or anything anymore. Basically a kick and two snare mics(kind of like the snare+crotch setup, one on the left, one on the right, snare is the focus of both.). No overheads. Kick mic is just lying on the floor in front of the bass drum, which has full heads on both sides now(meaning no more mic holes). Kick is tuned differently now, much higher. Using ghetto felt strips on both kick heads. Snare is tuned much lower(for me), especially the bottom head. Doing much less with EQ than i have in the past, actually none at all on the kick, very little on the other two. Not anywhere near as much compression on anything either, not on individual tracks anyhow. Still letting everything fight it out in the master bus though. I may have stumbled across a place where the kick and snare are pretty close to fully in phase, but where i think that maybe the hi-hat is a bit out, which actually helps an awful lot with allowing the snare to sound right to me, without my hihat eating all of the compressorspace.
I also have ditched the second kick pedal yet again, this time for the freedom it allows in moving the hi-hat a bit. Also finally got the kick pedal i have been using lately to finally feel tight enough, mainly by screwing around with the cam/sprocket and putting on an old one from an iron cobra i used to love, but badly broke/destroyed back in the olden days.
Just been a sort of drumpleasant few days of fixing things that i have just been hating but dealing with for years now.
Snare especially sounds much better to me. I still have to do some recording with other parts though to see exactly where i am at. Sounds good so far with bass, haven't had any time to get into guitars though. I don't expect them to make any problems though.

Who owns strings and beyond again? Wasnt it a lady off harmony central who started it for some reason? I feel like she was a doom roomer.

Wow, that's a harsh thing to go through. But it's good that you made that decision, if you weren't ready to raise a little one. Which is kinda nuts. I remember him talking on the forum about his burgeoning sex lyfe, and there it is. He done growned. It seems at my age I've seen a lot of people who have done growned. Crazy how times change and people flies.

gingers..... soul stealing motherfuckers......
He shows up on my contact list so I must have him on FB or somewhere else... maybe just from when we started this place I might have him in my email from when we had some issues on the beginning.
Remember right after we moved here we had some server issues, and getting emails from Snaxie telling me all was down... Been lucky ever since.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I'm not sure, I was trying to get some advertisement for a bit to offset costs, but this place doesn't cost very much and I got some strings and shit free for the ad, I just never took it down. I think they are God People......

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I fried my POD by accidentally putting the USB plug into the pedal port. And my Mrak is at the practice space. So I've been being super-poverty and recording with freeware amps (Mostly the LePou ones right now. Downloaded the Ignite Amps ones, but I haven't tried those yet.)

My band has an IndieGoGo: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the- ... fficial-epWe made it by fan request, but we figure if it helps pay for our album that's less money out of our (read: my) pockets. Don't really know what to expect out of it but hey, it's there.
