It made me want to wear my Slaughter of the Soul shirt and listen to that and Terminal Spirit Disease.

I'm not very impressed with the new AtG. There's some nice moments that recall elements of their last two releases but overall I find it dull. They have plenty of the sublime contrapuntal guitar lines but not quite as good or fresh sounding as before, and the 'heavy' riffs just sound insipid.

Oh well. :deadhorse: I'll still see them when they tour here.

I liked it well enough when it came out, but I haven't found myself revisiting it. :idk:

I suppose I'm giving this its semi-annual revisitation, probably because I've been using the title track as a bass workout. I should probably sit down and learn this properly on bass as well:

EDIT: I just noticed my post count is now 11111. :snax:

I have no idea why I've been listening to so much metal the past year or so? :idk:

It's Prong covering The Sisters Of Mercy, so I had to give it a spin. The original is pretty much just a straight punk song with a drum machine though, and I'm not sure covering it note for note a good deal slower than the original really adds anything. It sounds good production-wise, heavy and mean, but... :eekass:

I dig the solo at 4:16. Sounds ugly and post-punkish, like something off a Killing Joke record. I think it's actually Lemmy given the tone.

One of those things that plays in the back of my head randomly, resurfacing every five to seven years or so.

Really enjoyed this band and the singer's previous one (Deadguy) back in the old days. Still maintains a flat in the outskirts my mindspace i guess.

Coalesce sound cool but the interviews I've read from their guitarist struck as... probably the most pretentious shit ever.

I have never read any interviews with them, but i could see that. I seem to recall stories of their guitarist being a bit flaky.

I was pretty apalled by it but I gotta say, those songs saw raw and dirty in all the right ways.

New (to me) hardstuff:

Not sure what I think. Trailer seems more promising:

Loving the old-sounds here. I note the prodution does not suck on this nor the above.

I am guessing that the sampler is either a carefully chosen section of one song where something actually happens for 2:41, or it is what the rest of the record probably should be, an edited piece.

Otherwise, seeing that the album is released as a double disc only makes me think that most of it will be as the single other song is: too long, and coming from a band that does not seem to care to edit themselves. :red:

Admittedly i am not generally a fan of the long slow metals anyhow though. I like my violent music to feel violent. This Minsk type of stuff is good background sounds for peaceful sleeping.

The Indian tune is a good example of how to do a long-ass slow metal song right IMO though, if a long-ass slow metal song really must be made. Noisy, abrasive, wearing, not soothing.

Dude from that band used to post over at the HC FX forums, iirc.

I am pretty well stuck in the late nineties these days.

More recently read a tape op interview with the dude who recorded this and he expressed regret that he mixed the snare mics down to one during tracking, but with too much bottom snare in the mix of the mics.

But, i always considered that to be one of this mix's charms myself. :idk:

aw man.. one of my long time favorite musicians passed away this week.. tut taylor. cool old timer with unabashedly no interest in modernizing music whatsoever. love it.. cheers old man.
