Re: Sounds From The Cave On Trash Mountain.
Could you ever compile all the ones you still like into one download?

Re: Sounds From The Cave On Trash Mountain.
I don't even know. There are like hours of this shit now; just what i have in this thread is like three hours of noise when i drop them all into Media Player. It may be too much already for me to be able to sort properly. Part of me likes all of it. Part of me hates all of it. However, if anyone wants to download shit let me know what, and i can make it happen. At the moment though, i lack the mental capacity to edit/cull any of it myself.

Meant to continue playing with this one, but at this point i don't think that is going to happen: Questionable Endings.Kind of a clustermess.

Re: Sounds From The Cave On Trash Mountain.
The drums are just 3 mics:
• an MXL991 on the snare, about 2" off the rim, almost at rim level maybe just above. Close to the rack tom(so the tom is more or less in its blindspot, with the hi-hat in the same sort of blindspot on the other side), kind of aimed at me. • cheapo KBM412 on the floor in front of my kick, maybe four inches off. Sounds weirdly okay for how few fucks i gave in its placement. • MCA SP1 kind of centered as much as possible between snare, tom, and floortom, about the same level as the snare, pointed basically at the snare/me.
Pounding the shit out of it with a combination of W1 limiter and TLs saturated driver, as usual. Some EQ (reFIR) to boost lower snare fundamentals, probably works out to be about 7dB boost between 70 and 130hz, which also means that i am hitting the compression very hard with that frequency range.
Shit is borderline overbassed. To help out some, i ended up shelving the kick drum an awful lot, starting at like 300hz@0dB, and sweeping down to like -30dB by 0hz. Still kind of tubby on these speakers, but i kind of like it.
There is an additional EQ that only comes in on the tom part, in addition to a volume automation boost there, just to bring that section out. That is a goofy EQ, kind of W shaped boosting, low mid high, and cutting lowest, highest and the two in-between points. That is specifically just what works with my toms to make them come out more "tom-like". It is a very, IMO "fix-it-in-post" sort of cheater.
The guitars are simple. My MIM tele into my homemade amp. This is the first time i have recorded this new setup for my 4x12. I am mostly mic'ing tor's old G12H30 here, but the mic is back about twelve inches-ish so it is probably getting some of your old V30 as well as my two sammi greenback-wannabees. The mic is the same MCA SP1 that was used for the middle/tom/snare mic for the drums.
Bass is just regular for me, DI-ed SX jazzbass copy. EQ, compression, etc.

Some nice tunes, this latest one is particularly rockin' for my tastes.

Re: Sounds From The Cave On Trash Mountain.
Tanks, Brother Heck. I realized earlier that one was related to this older one from a couple months back that i didn't post because i didn't like it then: A Clustermess With Sprinkles.Tried to do it again today, but i still don't like it. In fact, i may even like it less than the one from a couple months ago.

Re: Sounds From The Cave On Trash Mountain.
But that intro guitar is awesomeness? Plugins for the delay, or recording trickery? The almost synth-pad-ish echovocals toward the end are particularly grand as well. As is the way the bass starts to disintegrate at the end. Seems cleaner than your usual mix, as in less dirt on everything. What's yer beef with this?

Re: Sounds From The Cave On Trash Mountain.
My beefwith is mostly detail things i dislike, but a lot of them. General mixthings. Generally too many goings-on. Too many guitars with too many effects onnem. Bass played a notgood flavor of overbusy (and mismatchy at that, due to recording it to blurry/over-delayed backing guitar tracks). General all-over-the-place-ness with bass and vocal levels stuff i don't like here and there. Also, too long for two parts. Hit that versething too many times, i think. What i like, is definitely that guitar bit that opens it. And sort of conceptually, though i don't like how actually it went down here, the spacepad vocal thing at the end. As for what things are... The guitar effects are all actual pedals. Delay-ey things are Behringer RV600 set kind of quick clean digi-echo on threes compared to my simple BYOC delay. The BYOC is set slower and loud, and i have a behringer VP1(aka EH small stone copy) in the fx loop i put in that delay. After that i have a dynacomp circuit i built, but with the janglebox mod stuff done to it for more brightness on the attack. Mainly this is to needlessly boost the tails of the delaymess before slamming it into my timmy copy and then on into my shitty crate GX15. Vocal fx are all vst, couple reverbs on various things(mostly using Ambience for a normal reverb sound and Modern Spacer for its plate reverb these days). Here and there again, are too many instances of the Watkat tape delay and a TAL dub delay, mainly to try to blur up the vocal as much as the sloppy guitars were, trying to shove the vocal back a bit. And yeah, everything is definitely mixed way quieter than normal for me. Shit is hardly clipping at all actually. I have vaguely been feeling like i should start doing it a bit more "right" than i have been. Even though i really love the crunchy disgusting edge of just doing everything completely wrong and too loud, i feel like i have just been hitting that stuff a bit too hard lately, and it kind of throws everything else that isn't shitslammed, out of balance when you play it back to back with something that is so much more than shitslammed that it isn't even funny at all.
