Semihollow?

No no no, full hollow carved top archtop acoustic. The Loars I can a Loar LH-309 used to $4-500 with a solid carved top. Eastmans can go $6-800 used with all laminate bodies, granted Kent Armstrong pickups but still.

Just scored an original Latvian-made Blue Baby Bottle on Ebay for cheep. This was a $1k mic when it was new, apparently, and the intarwebs tells me the current version is much cheaper in price, QC, and sound. I gather they changed the voicing significantly. S'posed to be on the dark-warm side. And I could use a good LDC. Worst case, I flip it if I think it sucks and probably make a few bucks.

Vaguely related: the Warm TB12 rules on everything. Stingray --> Sansamp VT Bass --> TB12 is just monstrous toan. I even like it as a straight DI, enough that I'd have to reamp my bass tracks as the DI signal is worth keeping. I almost never say that about a straight-up DI that isn't coming from a proper bass preamp. :hypno:

Because, of course, my recordings needed to be glossier.

Despite being like ... really drunk when deciding to get an archtop, I still want one.

I am thinking this guy, so I can run it through the 11-rack for a some dope solo recordings and doing some acoustic versions of some Oh Whales songs.

Holy shite, Devin, that is a sexie guitar. :isay: I are curious as well.

I just picked up an old Symetrix 501 broadcast compressor, the toggle switch version the Intarwebs loves for bass. For, well, tracking bass. Which is a thing I do occasionally when I actually have time to record... :red: I really can't wait to move in that regard, hopefully to somewhere with more rooms, as my recording gear is in the bedroom, my guitar rig is in the living room downstairs, and I'm not putting anything I care about in the basement. It does make things a bit inconvenient, especially as we're not on the same schedule, like, at all. :red:

I think a lot of more recent trucks are ugly in the fronts, but that one looks like a nice way to cause trouble, and Rumble Bee is a fantastic name.

I would go full on with vertical black vinyl striping down the whole thing. But when you got up close to the black stripes, you would see that they were printed with tiny letters that just said FUCK YOU over and over again.

I hope that thing is loud. It should be loud.

My buddy's Ram is pretty loud, so I'd say there's a good chance.

Welp, today I am going to go to a few shops and see if I can't put my hands on an LH-309. I am fairly certain that's what I will go for, but they do use a V shaped neck on their archtops. While I usually dig V necks, I have played some that didn't feel right in my hands. If it's anything like the Martin HD-28V necks I am going to be a happy camper, but I know it has a wider fretboard so I would IMAGINE the V is going to be a wider angle, so maybe it will be a softer V (which are my favorites.)

This picture does make me a little nervous though:

Image Coolest logo ever, too.

It's reasonably loud. It has an aftermarket muffler of some sort on it, they were silent from the factory as Rumble Bee is an appearance package.

It needs to be as loud and obnoxious as it looks, though. It's not quite there yet.

Post Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I'mma copypasta something I sent to Mr. newholland earlier as I'm too tired to recap my thoughts on recently purchased recording gear. This is re: the original first iteration Latvian Blue Baby Bottle and Symetrix 501 compressor:

The Blue is very well-made. Heavy. The matte finish and brass badge, somewhat aged from, well, age, combine with the design and general sturdiness to give it a very "vintage" look- it seems like a very old mic. Sounds like one, too. I get why people consider it dark- 'cause it is, for a condenser. Key words. It still has more top end than a 57. The top end is clear and present, while being somewhat subdued and not at all crispy. Cheep Chinese condenser this ain't. Nor is it scooped- plenty of midrange to be had here. The overall effect is thick and warm. I don't really have a frame of reference for this as I've never used a mic that sounds quite like it. Not a condenser, at least. Very classy sounding. I can see why people love this thing on guitar cabs, too. Well worth the not-very-much I paid for it.

The Symetrix 501 was another nice score- it's near invisible on low settings, as it doesn't attenuate top or bottom end at all. It can get pretty tough sounding pushed hard, but I haven't found a use for that yet, more an accident setting it up on bass. It'll do 6dB of GR on bass without being obvious. Hell, it'll do that on vocals, too, though with different settings. 3 or 4 is a bit nicer, I think- a little more punch, less smooth, but it'll do it. Easy enough to dial in- fastest attack, fairly slow release for vocals; slower attack, quick release on bass. The usual. Threshold as necessary, output to taste. I have it in the insert points of the TB12, so I can get some interesting interaction going on with the gain structures here. I'm sure if I really wanted to mash something, it would do it in an interesting way, from the little I've done it by accident tweaking knobs so far.

Overall, this is nice, grown-up sounding gear. It does the job well with basically no effort expended on my part in setup. It's all "keeper" stuff which should serve me well for a good long time. I can make good sounding records with this.

I have only played one V-shaped neck to my knowledge; it was an Epiphone Masterbilt acoustic. Since you appear to be a connoisseur, what are your thoughts on them in comparison to other neck profiles, and where are they usually found?

Humblebrag alert...

This weekend was Ontario Death Fest, or as my bandmates call it Ontario Geoff Fest. All three of the bands I'm in played, so I did drums Friday night, vocals and then guitar Saturday. That was the most fun I've had in a long time!

Also ODF was a fucking success. I hope it continues to grow.

So I traded 3 guitars, one working but missing the neck pickup and the bridge pickup was wired straight to the output jack, one missing the pickguard and no pickups/bridge, and the other one also missing the pickguard and pickup, 3 pickups and a spare bridge for a Cerwin Vega HT-s15a HT subwoofer.

Pretty sweet deal, I've been wanting a powered sub for my hifi for a while, and this one is pretty badass. Matches my Polk bookshelves quite well.

I also got rid of a bunch of broken junk I was never going to fix.

Do you still rock that semihollow? I think you must, it was an inheritance wasn't it?
