Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Honestly it took me a few weeks. Not having to hold down the entire middle of the mix... wow it is really freeing. Now being lead man I am more tied to my pedals, at least for leads (boost switch) for now. with a rhythm guitar in there I need a boost to cut. BTW the Suhr koko boost (original 2 button) is sweet as fuck.

I seem to be developing a guitar buying/building/acquiring problem.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Yarr. Been buying the shit out of Squier products lately though. Fender is doing a thing now where a lot of the most vintage-correct guitars they make are actually in the Squier lineup. Proper Fenders have all moderny bridges and pickups and lectonics and tuners and whatnot, except the ones at the tippy top of the lineup from the vintage/custom shop. But then, randomly, at the opposite end of the spectrum, the Squire Classic Vibe and Vintage Modern lines are full of all the good old style shit. Anyhow, bought the VM Jazzmaster, and then just picked up this guy: Which is a Vintage Modified 70's. Musicians Friend had real good pricing on all the Squier shit through the holiday, i couldn't stop buying them. Just over $230 for the strat. I actually can't scratch build a strat for less than that unless i get a bunch of parts for free somewhere.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
squier products are great bang for the buck. I mean really the amount of money to drop on something custom shop or Gibson, PRS, Suhr etc... buy a squier, drop some quality tuners and pups... damn, you're looking at a nice little piece.

Thats cool, my favourite colour/neck combo on a Fender. I like Squier guitars, I really want an Affinity tele as the neck is a little narrower than a normal one and feels really nice to play to me.

I Dl'ed the other ones a couple days ago but haven't got a chance to sit and listen to them yet. I did a pile of rando drawings for you but nothing i really ended up liking. Shit is cool man. Cool guitars, cool bass, cool drums, weirdo vox(ala the change of direction in the second section of human shield), all in all, a real good time.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I'll give that a listen later Cam, Chris' review makes it sound like something I'd enjoy. My band found a new singer almost straight away and he's bloody awesome. I'm glad the old one left mostly clean but he can bring the br00tz really well if needed. We tried going down to D standard/drop c for our songs and it's made some o them sound weird but most sound really awesome and grungy rather than the more "classic rock" vibe you can get in Eb. Problem though, my toan was awful this week compared to last and literally the only thing that's changed is the tuning. Just lacked any kind of thickness, balls, punch and weight behind it. Same guitar, amp, cab and room. Got some heavier strings on the way (11-52, might need a 56 though) but how else can I get my punch back? Tubescreamer or Rat as a boost? Generally at home I don't like what the TS does (low end cut and the smooth/compressed thing) but it works nicely for recording so..? I read something about speakers not having the right Freq response to transmit the low c properly but is that pseudo science bullshit?

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Could be the guitar setup not being optimized for the loosey strings and they may be fretting out as they ring. Or, if they are real close to the pickups, they might be loose enough to be affected by the magnetic fields now, which can choke them and make them sound weak.
Could be a fluctuation in the voltage from the wall affecting the gain structure of your map.
I don't really buy into the speakers not able to swing C type of talk. C is not, imo, THAT low, and i have never experienced a guitar not getting a lot heavier sounding going down to C, even through my most shitty speakers.
What is your cab? And what's innit?
The TS might work. If you know a local nerd, it can be modified to remove the low cut pretty easily. There are a lot of ODs though that will do a flat boost though if that is what you need. You might only need something as simple as a Zvex SHO type circuit.
I would look at the strings and setup first though.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
That's true it was set up for 10s and standard so I guess action and intonation needs to be messed with a bit when I get my new strings. The cab was a bog standard blackstar 4x12 at the rehearsal space, mo idea what speakers but it didn't sound too bad before. Not as good as my 2x12 but it saves lugging it around All this toan chasing leads me to believe I really do need to just flog it all and get a JCM800 whatever the cost

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I find the tubescreamer low cut isn't a problem when it's boosting a high gain amp. The lows are still there, just tightened and more junjunjun.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Yarr, i would definitely agree with that for high gainers, was kind of assuming that T was going for less tight and more girth tho.
For high gainers, boosting without that TS low cut even kind of sounds shitty, IMO. You must TS that biz.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Yeah not so much tightness, want moar cut and punch in the mix. The kinda tone I seem to go for (and the band sounds like) is a bit Soundgarden superunknown mixed with STP core. We're not playing metal, kinda grunge tinged stoner rock.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
how awesome... a maplifier chat... on maplifiers. I would agree for cut use the TS. I use a KOT for my TS needs, but have recently gone with using a Suhr Koko Boost.. that mother fucker cuts like I have never seen before. here's the bogner with the koko boost in front solo is around 1:19 and then a little break down with some notey shit.... sorry its on cell phone but you get the idea of the cut https://www.facebook.com/wendy.scripps.73/videos/448339418889036/

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I've seen that Koko recommended elsewhere but it's a bit expensive for me. Maybe a clone of it would work, that's all my board seems to be at the minute haha. Oh yeah I got a new pickguard for my strat and committed to the evh/tom Delonge thing. Crappy pic cause my phone camera is fucked. It's the closest I've been to happy with a strat. No controls or middle pickup to get in the way. http://i.imgur.com/zhWcsm9.jpg
