Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I play in D-Standard with high gain amps. I just about always have a boost sitting in the mix. When I worked in the shop, I played 7-strings in like, Drop A or whatever and no speakers ever had a problem eating those up. Also a LOT of dudes in my scene play in Drop C with fairly standard gear (Oranges, Rectifiers, 5150/6505s with just about every variety of closed back cabinet) and none of them have problems with their speakers. Boost and a fresh setup are probably what you need. Or, you could always be weird like me and get a 26.14" scale guitar to play D Standard in

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Haha I can barely play Fender scale lengths comfortably due to my small child like hands. I'm going to make more of an effort to though. Since getting my strat into a layout I'm happy with, I've played it more and noticed how much clearer and more in tune it sounds, maybe those fender guys were onto something going back to my SG feels and sounds a bit sloppy and soft for lack of a better description.

Thank ya. No worries on the drawing bit, we figured we'd just chuck it out there. There will be another release at some point and I might have to bug ya about it down the line.

Our baby boy finally arrived on Wednesday night in perfectly good health! We're both over the moon with him, he's awesome. The first song I played him was Smooth Sailing by QOTSA so he's getting a good start in life he doesn't like Nirvana yet though.

For some reason, i decided to mount my own snow tires on rims today. I have made better choices. I have made worse. I need an air compressor pretty much right now.

Yep my first, he's still maintaining his awesome streak and letting us sleep a bit. I don't feel like the husk of a man I thought I would after 2 weeks of parenthood. I'm sure this will soon change.

You're lucky. Although I think the sleeplessness that comes with a difficult infant helps build up your endurance once they get past the potato stage and get mobile and interactive. At least that's how I try to justify it.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Since quitting GD and the act of slamming on guitar all together I've turned my attention towards the more melodic, dare I say symphonic side of metal... Just getting in touch with local bands who do that and people I know who do it who have moved away. Flirted with joining one band but it didn't work out, which I think is probably a good thing considering what I've seen of them since... Am also locked in with recording a symphonic/gothic band's demo. I've also been writing some music in that vein and I really like the songs I'm coming up with, it's way more satisfying than just the endless chromatic junjuns. I'm starting to feel like I should make something of this. So I've got three songs on the way which I will make and produce as great as I possibly can and release as a 'promo', and will gauge people's reactions to it to determine if it should be fleshed into a real band. A friend from my one failed year at university has married this beautiful biologist and they live in Poland now, and she has a fucking amazing voice. I got in touch with him (he happens to be yes, doing the symphonic music which I am so interested in) and along with me agreeing to help his project however I can here in Canada it is agreed that she will sing on my songs. I wanted her to sing them the moment I saw the covers they were posting so that is a big deal for me. Also seem to have a tentative agreement with a local soprano to offer her operatic style. And... I will attempt to sing in a serious fashion as well. The idea is to have lots of different voices and just be huge, like my huge inspiration Therion. With all the good news of people agreeing to work with me I'm just hella fucking stoked right now. The project will be called Nachtmusic (I thought the k was too Germanic). I have rough demos of songs which are just guitar and SD2 but they already sound sublime. Need to incorporate the symphonic aspect and work out the vocal parts, then it's off to recording the promo. I just have this momentum right now, meeting people and writing tunes and... oh fuck I am stoked my dudes.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Okayyy. I'm rethinking the name though. 'Nachtmusic'. I mean it has a sort of precedent in classical music but kind of, when your band name has the word 'music' in it it's kind of I dunno, dumb?

Meh. All that really matters about a name is if it's taken.

Oh Ben. You were commenting on when I shared Cryovile on my Facebook... She is one of the people who has said they'll sing in this project.
