Listening to this as the band I'm mixing in a few weeks wants me to reference it. I think I could nail this production pretty easily.

Well, if I'm recalling my shotgun ballistics correctly, we'd only be talking like 13-1400 FPS to begin with, with 1200 being the speed of sound, and to effectively supress the thing you'd have to drop the velocity below that.

While I don't recall the formula for cartridge case versus supressor volume, the fact you'd need a three-foot long supressor on the thing surprises me not at all.

Well, a shotgun wouldn't be the kind of thing you would be using much more than twenty yards out anyhow. I suppose the quietversion would work fine if you wanted to get within five or so. I just feel like, maybe if you want to get that close to something to kill it, you might as well just hit it over the head with the thing.
