Re: Tele Appreciation Thread
I've mentioned this before, but Chris's Teles = hot. Although it's not a proper Tele, I want one of these very badly:

Re: Tele Appreciation Thread
Aye, only the lowest quality pine lumber from Lowes for me! It is awesomely lightweight and sounds cool. I thought i would like it with the fullsize humbucker, but it sounds way way better with the low output single coils.

Re: Tele Appreciation Thread
I have Heard Good Things about pine Teles.
They're pretty much the only guitar I've ever... heard of being made out of pine. Apparently they sound cool.
I've never played one.

Re: Tele Appreciation Thread
They have a kind of unique sound to them for sure. With a nice bright bright low output pickup, they can get a really interesting oddly bright sort of sound. I say oddly bright, because it is not an icepicky thing so much as an oddly upper middsy thing. I hesitate to post this, as it is pretty old, and recorded with one of the shittiest microphones known to man (the Nady SP4) but it is the only pinecaster clip i have on anything so far. But anyhow, a really quick and dirty clip of it from right after i built it: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... ID=6842300Also, that was before i set it up correctly, so the leadish thing is wonky, fretting out in odd spots and whatnot. But the rhythm guitars almost show some of the odd flavor of jangle the pine brings. The pickups are just $30 GFS cheapy vintage wind alnicos.

Taking the crustiness into account, those are tones I could get behind.

Re: Tele Appreciation Thread
You know, for how much I lub mah tele, I sure do not post pictures of it very often. And yes, all of my gear receives ridiculous nicknames. Tele McCrazy-Grain: Yes, most of my photos are of terrible quality. I need to get batteries for my cam-a-ruh.

Re: Tele Appreciation Thread
I really should do some new stuff with it. I just haven't been writing much that calls for the jangle thing it does. Which was why i put the fullsize bucker in there for a spell, but that did a not particularly nice thing to the sound, too dark to jangle, too loose to chug. Also, doing away with the standard tele bridge mount seemed to adversely affect the sound. Best part about the guitar though, is the fact that wiring, pickups, tuners, strings, and all it weighs just about not quite five pounds. And probably two or three of that is the neck. So it dives a little like an SG, but as a person who generally doesn't let go of the neck, it doesn't bother me. The lightness of it is fucking awesome though. I actually cut a big fatty slab of pine out of a huge-ass tree near my grandmother's place in NH that got struck by lightning, that i am going to use to make another one, with a more standard control plate arrangement and whatnot.

Re: Tele Appreciation Thread
Furrealz. I just wish i had a proper kiln for drying it out. I cut it a couple years ago, and have just been waiting it out. I am afraid that it is going to crack before i can make a rockstick out of it. Even if it does, i will just glue it and do it, but i would feel a lot better about it if i could have had tighter control over how it has been drying out.

Re: Tele Appreciation Thread
The internet instructed me to bake the drive shaft from my double kicks in the oven today. It helped.

Re: Tele Appreciation Thread
I would have, but i couldn't trust it not to burst into flames when i wasn't looking. It has actually spent a fair amount of time in the very large fireplace up at the cabin near which it was felled. The fireplace is huge enough that you can have a fairly solid blaze going, and still be able to lean a guitar-sized slab against one of the side walls without it contacting flame. I just had to watch it to make sure it didn't alight from the massive amounts of indirect heat. Like many things of mine that are the ghetto version of something nice, i used that as my ghetto version of a proper kiln. A real wood kiln uses pressure as well as heat though, to drive the moisture evenly from the wood. Any ghetto version runs the risk of driving the water out unevenly and creating fractures.
