Re: The workbench thread
Clear coating went a bit wrong and the front is a bit banged up from when it was bent and my drilling hasnt helped so I think I'm going to paint the front panel black. Ah well.

Re: The workbench thread
my workbench went as far as actually finishing a true bypass and added purple led to my Hendrix wah. I never use wah anymore, I just had started it a long time ago and just finished it.

Re: The workbench thread
The board is mainly populated now. Just missing a 10K resistor and two 1N4007 diodes which I'll pick up tomorrow. Wired the preamp heaters too.

Re: The workbench thread
Just pedlols for Devin. A timmy and a mastotron. I WANT to build an amp, but my next project will probably be something recording-related. Specifically, if i can figure out a ghettocheap way to trick and make my mixer recognize 16 inputs instead of 8 over the firewire, my next project will be the construction of... about sixteen microphone preamps.

Re: The workbench thread
Cool, I've been eyeing up the madbeans pcbs to build something on. Apparently its not too hard to build a supercollider using a muff PCB so I might look into that. I read that link, I guess you arent going to be using 1000 batteries to power it though

Re: The workbench thread
You mean an actual particle accelerator, or like a pedal by that name? If the former, then plz link to article.

Re: The workbench thread
Oscillator fuzz unfortunately I'm probably better off building a boost pedal in all honesty though. Also I have a behringer echo machine with is an echo park clone. Pretty decent delay for not much cash but it stopped working. I finally remembered to bring it home to check up and there isnt any power getting into the pedal! probing the terminals of the DC input socket gets pretty much nil. The adapter gets pretty fucking hot though. It uses the same input as the boss pedals and apparently they arent to great for not shorting so I'm gonna rip that sucka out and try it with a battery snap to see if the rest of the pedal is okay.

Re: The workbench thread
Adapter getting hot means a short somewhere more than likely. Does the adapter work normally with other pedals(test... carefully?)? Look for anything that is touching anything else that shouldn't be. If that is one of the plastic behringers, there isn't a whole shitlot that anything can short to, so it becomes more likely that you have a wire or solder blob touching something. Or, that the wrong power adapter was applied(say, one with reversed polarity, or a 9V AC instead of DC). In that case, you hopefully wold just have a dead diode that would need swapping(prolly SMD, so get out your pointiest iron tip and some tweezers!) Worst case scenario, the computer that runs the whole damn pedal might be toast. Also, that supercollider sounds innnteresting. I am lloking at the schematic, and i may well try to do some of those mods to my own big muff build.

Re: The workbench thread
I tested the pedal with a different PSU and it was the same. The PSU itself reads 14V unloaded with a meter. I'll check the diodes for continuity. There is one under the DC socket which tests okay for continuity but if the socket is shorted then I guess it would anyway

Re: The workbench thread
While poking about over on the slocone forum I stumbled across a genius, if retardedly simple preamp prototyping rig. Wood and copper nails! Build your maps, and work out the layout at the same time and no need to cut components down to fit in eyelets! no waste, no dicking about.
After this 20Wer is dont I'm stripping my preamp and building a 1ch high gain doofer.
