You have asked but I haven't had a chance to weigh it.

It is fairly substantial though. Thanks to the ash, it is heavier than your average Tele. Not as heavy as a cheap LP though.

I think you could be safe adding about 2 pounds to that though. Mine feels pretty chunky, but maybe I have become more of a pansy in the last couple of years.

Oh, not just for this one. I have a very long standing battle with a desire and attempt to simplify being overcome with the urge to make (generally, wildly) more complex. I usually mess up a good thing while i am at it too.

The garbagecaster is safe from that worst case scenario though. For now. I do have a couple moar silly things on the drawing board though.

Yeah, i was lurking TDPRI a bit ago and folks were saying they were pretty dope on other companies bodies.

They also do those paulownia tele bodies for pretty decent pricing, but really, i would probably just make another pine one myself before i bought one.

In an ideal situation, i want a lightweight swamp ash body to build a proper #1 geetar out of. I am really into my MIM tele, but i have started to wish that it was about two pounds lighter. This most recent hobocaster is a really nice weight. Heavier than Pinecaster I, but lots lighter than the #1 MIM.

I like heavier guitars. Probably one of the reasons why I like JMs.

I played a 70s Les Paul at a shop and I thought it was going to rip my shoulder off. Thing had to weigh 15 lbs.

I am NOT fond of heavy guitars. I play standing up sometimes.

I basically have no parts for one except for a good neck, but the Jazzmaster i am going to make, will probably be the exception to my general rule of about 6-7lb being ideal for a Fendery guitar. The last Jazzmaster i played was probably more like my MIM tele, 8.5-9ish pounds, and it just felt right.

Actually the JM and Mustangs are the ones i most want to build at the moment. I just wish that moar companies than Fender produced Mustang and Jazzmaster trems/bridges. I need something solid but chinese cheep like the GFS 3-saddle tele shits.

My dad's friend brought over a refinished (doh!) late fifties or early sixties (former) goldtop one many years ago. That thing was definitely about 13-14lb, at LEAST. It was like, i WANTED to like it because, i was supposed to like it... But it kind of sucked.

I actually play standing up more often than i do sitting down. That definitely has a lot to do with my geetar weight requirements.

I have a 77 LP Deluxe. weighs roughly a fucklot ton, on the other hand my SR5 is about as heavy and I've made it through 3 set gig's with both.

But you are like, a manly man, some kind of wizard, and a ninja, so this type of fortitude and stamina is expected of you.

I almost always play standing up.

EDIT: I play bass a lot. So, pretty much any guitar feels light in comparison.

I actually can hardly play my bass sitting down at all. All of the mechanics of it are wrong. Actually, this is one of the reasons that i would like a shortscale somethingorother bass to mess with.

It forces your wrist into a weird and uncomfortable angle IMO.

Spent some time with the first tester Mustang. This one is just cheepo Lowes-sourced pine. I intend to use it for a test bed of sorts to see what i want to wind up with for a couple later builds of a proper Mustang and Jazzmaster.

I am using the 24" shortscale neck from my SX mini strat. It does not seem to be quite the same dimensions as the actual fender shortscale neck, as it looks like the bridge on this guitar will have to be back about 1/2" from what is shown on the blueprints.

Missing some major components. Have no idea what i am going to use for a bridge. A proper Mustang one is too many dollars for me right now. There is a cheapo-ish chinese Jazzmaster copy one that i found, but i don't know if this body is deep enough to fit the thing correctly without it popping through the back when used. Either way, i can't currently afford the cheepo JM one wither, so for now i will try to jigger some sort of fixed bridge setup that will be non-intrusive enough to allow a later trem addition.

Also missing the switches. They are kind of odd ones, DPDT sliders, but with a center off position. Looks like they are about $10 a pop. I am currently leaning towards the "fuck that" option for those. I might try it with cheaper normal toggles, or some other type of switching arrangement, i don't know at the moment.

Made a control plate out of some of my trusty one way sign. Still have to drill it.

Also made a place-holder pickguard out of a bit of formica i have lying around. Mainly just to see if the pick guard template i made is going to work.

This is just with the bits i am probably going to use just sitting mocked up on top. Probably going to use some black pickup covers i have instead of the white, as that is the proper Mustang way.



Bridge is probably going to be tune-o-matic (but like, mounted straight, unlike the photo where it has slid to an angle), because i have one that uses really tiny studs, which will be easier to turn into bigger holes if/when i get a real mustang/jazzmaster bridge in there.

Same reasoning behind the tailpiece which is a real lo-fi bit from an old plywood Harmony. Mainly i am using it because it mounts to the body with four small screws, like pickguard style screws. So it will be easier to replace later with a real trem style bridge without having huge gibson-tailpiece-style stud holes to plug up first.

I am currently leaning towards trying to paint the thing some sort of sparkley green color. I think a flakey forest green would look swell with the oddly orangey "vintage tinted" SX neck, and maybe a pearloid pickguard if i can find some material at a properly cheapo sort of price.
