I'm building a 383 for my camaro right now.

When it comes to the automotive shit... right now I'm rebuilding a TH400 for a friend and as soon as that's done I've got a Quadrajet to rebuild for my own uses later down the road.

I have an 89 Chevy 1500 right now... Plans for that Quadrajet involve a Monte Carlo or El Camino and a 400 small block that I have laying in the floor of my garage.

I have an 86 Z-28 that the 383 is going into. It has a 305 and a built 700r4 in it right now. I'm going to run all forged on the 383, a pretty badass lunati cam, and probably a 150 shot of spray.

I'm planning to get lots of machine work done on the 400... balanced, blueprinted, lightened, maybe bore it .030 if I'm fortunate enough to have the extra material to bore. It'll be running mostly stock until then, though. It's an early 400, 71 model, so it's still got 10.5:1 compression and shit.


I have a set of the infamous camel hump DZ302 heads that will be going on it, and a lunati .292/.292 duration .488/.488 lift cam that will be going in it prior to installation. I believe it should be rather quick.

My 305 has a Competion Cam with the same specs as that lunati you're looking at, and it's really not big enough IMO. With the kinda heads your running and work you're putting in, why not run a hotter cam?

I want a streetable build. With everything being lightened and shit, the engine will make considerably more than with the stock internals. It'll be at about 400hp (rough projection, honestly) but rev super quick and idle lumpy at about 800rpm. That's the goal, anyway. Whether it comes out that good or not is a different story. I usually do all-out builds.


I thought about a higher lift cam, but I'm running dome pistons in this build, so my max is about .500".

I want to give you guys my dakota so you can put a 427 in it.

I could probably manage an LS7 swap in it. I doubt a big block would fit in it though.

People put in 408s all the time. ls7 would be a fucking dream.

A 408 is a small block. It's a 360 bored .060 and stroked.

A 6.1 hemi swap would be easy for that truck.

Yep, since the later incarnations of those trucks came with 4.7s, there would be very little fabrication involved.

I believe Mike's either has the 318 or the 360, since it's a Dakota R/T.
