So, uh yeah, evidently Windows has gone to shit on my laptop here. Bluescreening like a motherfuck for no gawdamnedreason. Won't load into the desktop correctly about 90% of the time.

Luckily, this Asus shipped with a weirdly lo-fi stripped out Linux-based novelty browser called Express Gate that has at least allowed me to generally ascertain that the computer is basically functional, and that the problem is most likely software-based.

So yeah, weirdly blurry text, and no DAW, but, at least i have some internets.

Motherfuck. I wonder what the fuck went screwy.

put your windows into safe mode, if it will do that and get to the run command type msconfig go to startup and take everything out of start up see if it boots. Did you load anything new recently?

SO. Now i am posting from my old ancient Dell. That doesn't have enough space on it to actually update anything.

At least i have something, but shit. I cannot afford to fix ANYTHING on the Asus. Could be HDD, RAM, CPU, don't know. The fucking thing is too unstable for me to even check any of the logs or shit on it inbetween bluescreens.

It is screwy, i don't know that the Asus issue seems very "hard drive fail" to me. It may in fact be, but it isn't like any other HDD fail i have had.

The Dell one is just fucked up kick 'em when they are down shit, IMO. That shit is just malevolent.

Anyhoo, at the moment, i am experimenting wif the Asus RAM situation. It has two 2GB sticks in it. At the moment i am running off only one of them one(and it is the second one moved into the first slot) to see if it gives any change at all.

Well that sucks. At least you can get inside it and play around with the components. If it were a macbook you'd have to take it to some smarmy "genius" to diagnose the fault then charge you out the arse for it to be fixed as you're not on bullshit applecare

Asus is a fullsize laptop, G51vx-RX05, IIRC? It is SATA.

The Dell is ancient as fuck, an Inspiron 8200 , and man, i would be surprised if it wasn't IDE. But i would have to check to be sure.

Like i said, i am not 100% convinced that it is a hard drive issue on the Asus(though it definitely is on the Dell! (SUNOVAFUCK, WHORE, PISS!)), as i am not seeing any HDD failure/error shit in the logs. Lots and lots of software shutdowns though. So i am thinking maybe RAM fuckery.

I've completely disassembled and reassembled my Macbook Pro. More than once.

It's probably worse off for it though.

I gots some two-gig laptop RAM sticks kicking about still; I think I posted 'em in the spam forum but they never moved. They don't work in anything I have and aren't worth anything anymore so...

Yarr, the macbook pro is the only type i could own from that outfit. I HATE the concept of non-user-serviceable innards. It just encourages an army of helpless retards to rise and cover the erf. People should be able to, and know how, to troubleshoot their own important shit, IMO.

Also, what flavour are they? The Asus doesn't use the newest shit, but it is still DDR2 PC6400S SO-DIMMS, which is unfortunately shinier stuff than i have in my Dell or anything else i have lying around in parts.

So far, operating on 2GB for a while now without BSOD.

Probably tempting Fate by mentioning that just now, but well, he and i have never gotten along terribly well, anyhow.
