I noticed on HCAF a lot of people were saying accounting and business, but stay away from business unless you like enjoy spending time with wannabe guidos and chachis. Accounting and finance(in particular) are highly competitive and hard programs(they're an acquired taste as well), and if you aren't part of any clubs, extra curricular activities, and pulling at least a 3.3, finding a job will not be a cakewalk.

Off that list though, becoming a draftsman/technologist will get you paid and all you gotta do is draw shit engineers tell you to

BTW, stay away from the social science type shit like economics, sociology, anthropology, linguistics, geography, etc. If that's want you want to do try and get into a reputable university instead of community college. Doing it at a CC would be a colossal waste of time and money since ultimately you will need your masters(or higher) to make anywhere near bank with those types of degrees.

I would suggest NOT doing anything media or music related if you were at all. I'm too lazy to re-read the thread to see what you were actually interested in It's a fun 3 years and an easy first class degree, but so far it hasn't been very useful for me. Mind you I've only been I've had about 5 interviews for video editor type positions, 2 of which were unsuitable and the others I was declined as I don't live in London (seriously) But yeah you need to enjoy it otherwise you won't make it past year 1, unless you're really stubborn

I strongly suggest not reading anything that seems serious by hcaf standards, vol....

I wouldn't take advice from the mooks on HCAF unless I wanted to be like the sort of mook that hangs out on HCAF.

As i posted over there, i was amazed that it took like sixty posts before a meatwad suggested prostitution.

On the bright side, those mooks are often doing well to stinking rich (hence the ponderous right-leanings that are so prevalent there? Not what you'd expect from 'musicians'...), so they must be doing something right.

Those mooks were so much better before the 2.0 debacle. Seems like the entire place took a whole step backward. There were nothing wrong with HCAF's suggestions. They are perfectly valid ways of making bank, but IT, business, and engineering are definitely not programs you can half ass...unless you are one of the rare people who is a naturally gifted at those things.


Technical work and trades is the way to go. A woman in trades is lullz though. It would be funny to see some hipster chick like Voltaire doing welding and shit.

I figure most of HCAF consists of hobbyists and not so much 'musicians' in the 'original artist' sense.

A lot of them can outplay me, and have much nicer gear; however, our goals in playing instruments are not the same.

That place was soo much better off when all of us were posting there causing havoc, then it turned into some nazi party where you cant even call yourself a cock face without getting bant.

Server or bartender can do the trick, as a stopgap, and especially in a good town. My sister DingDong did the bartender course thing and does that and tablewaitings also as her main non-school activities. Pretty bartenders can make decent monies. If she was doing it in the city(boston) proper instead of around up a bit where we live, she could actually make *very* decent money at it. Even as it stands, she makes enough to cover a bunch of her shit(though... no rent ). Probably won't allow you to save any money or anything at all in a town like NYC, but lots of folks in that town do it that way.

Lady V - mostly going to college to for a career you don't know if you would like, will suck. But since you have the opportunity to go for free, then take some classes, get some of the shit out of the way that you would have to take for any major (english 101 etc..) and try a few classes and see what you like or are good at. You can always use classes as electives.

I would just like to point out I totally drunkdialed V the other night and have no idea what I said and do not remember a damn thing after 2 AM.

It only just crossed my mind to say something, but I shall be beginning college soon, only community college, since I could never get into anything else with my transcript.


However, I do plan on being an English major and transferring into a 4-year with my new college transcript.


I have come to the conclusion that I can only make it more than a couple of years on this planet unless I was doing something fun and creative that I love, otherwise life really isn't going to be worth living for me.
