It is a hybrid picking style, usually uses a guitar pick plus one or more fingers. It is that classic "how the fuck is he playing that fast bit without moving the pick faster" country guitar sound.

Yeah, the phrasing of it is so fricken cool. The way it runs through the chord changes, and the totally flash-as-fuck fast shit, that still has kind of a weird lazy sort of sound to it. Pretty derned sweet.

THAT is a style i want to learn. I can do some screwy bends, but nothing to the degree of slickness as the stuff he strings together continually, like it was nothing.

Also that song he does is pretty epic. There are a couple parts that are just too slick to even understand.

Like, it is cool enough that i would take lessons to have someone show me how to do it, if that is what it took. Which, for me, as an anti-schooler, is a big deal.

Who does this in a rawk context?

Seriously, there's a dearth of hybrid pickers ripping badass rawks. The only player I can think of off the top of my head who occasionally uses hybrid picking in a dirty rawk context I can think of, really, is Zakk Wylde. Maybe John 5? Yikes! There has to be someone a little less conventional than that, right?
