So like, got a new soundcard and all, and it does actually make a difference. Frankly, i wasnt expecting much, because there is little to expect when upgrading amplification parts. However, in battlefield, the silenced weapons dont just click, they now make a "pew pew" sound. And you can hear water splash when you blow up a water tower... and the helicopter rotors have a nice thump to them, etc etc, and my sub doesnt flub out when i shoot tank shells.

So yeah, positive experience. Worth 134$? Maybe not. But still sounds cool.

We had a great evening out for my best friend's birthday. It was entirely drama-free; she went home happy and very intoxicated. I am sober and tired.

Even being a sort of rock star to local scene people is quite gratifying. Actually, quite a bit so; these people are familiar faces I've seen out at things for years who have very specific things to say and are genuinely complimentary and appreciative regarding something that really does mean quite a lot to me and I've put a lot of effort- the whole band, all of us have- into refining and continuing to refine and perfect. And I think image and people's perception count for a lot- where I as someone intimately involved in the creation of something see its flaws and imperfections, an outsider sees the glossy, polished whole.

But I could digress on that forever. Apparently our drummer booked us a few more shows- I just heard from one of the promoters while I was out- but I don't know the details yet as he hasn't yet e-mailed them to the rest of us. We rehearse tomorrow- today, actually- so I don't think it much matters. He has full discretion and authority on that. We have fairly clearly defined roles and responsibilities, all of us, outside of our instruments, and no one really steps on each other's toes in that regard for fairly obvious and practical reasons. Having me try and book us, for example, would be roughly as effective as having the drummer engineer the record.

...and speaking of band stuff, we're planning on bringing someone onboard- we have a prospective candidate who's actually seen us and seems quite interested- as essentially a "fifth Beatle" of sorts, our first actual crewperson, to handle the A/V stuff- which means both mixing us and making sure the lights and projections (automated) are running smoothly. Ideally they would have creative input on that end too with the lights and video stuff. We'll see how that works out. We can't do what we're trying to do and be totally at the mercy of whomever works at the venue, especially with the monitor mixes, and the visual stuff really needs to be overseen by someone who's not standing onstage trying to play.

I've been up for nearly a day on like two hours sleep. I'm going to bed.

We buried my buddy today. Of course that rots, but old bandmates and friends are coming out to my gig tonight, so we will drown our sorrows, and talk of our friend. Most of these guys have not seen me perform in a REALLY REALLY long time. Should be interesting, meanwhile kids are at my mom's house so my chick is coming out as well so we will probably need a cab ride home. I shall tell the tale of this evening when I get time in the next day or so. Good luck gents I am off for the stage.

My heavy band is all running DI now. I'm using the Pod XT for my bass tones- actually borrowing our guitarist's XT Pro 'cause it's rackmountable and putting my patches on it- and he's using the , both straight in. We tried this the other day- Mike's AxeFX thread made me think of this- and it worked out pretty well. Our drummer commented that while our tones weren't better- still good, mind you (and we didn't really tweak for the room either)- the actual mix was a lot better. He could hear us both loud and clear at all times. Now that we have some songs structured and a real frontman- a balls-out raspy rawk guy with a big range (the drummer and I are covering the backing vocals)- I'll see if I can't get some "field recordings" to post up next time we get together.

Low end isn't an issue with the DI bass, either- the enormous JBL mains the guitarist has have an 18" along with a 10" and a horn.

I have two more confirmed Garda dates in April- (Un)Holy Saturday- and May. We're trying to line up some festival stuff as well. I still can't confirm the exact mid-March date, which kinda sucks. We're lining up a couple darker-themed bands for the April date- we tried to get Good Friday, but they were already booked... and have a properly offensive show opener idea planned- 39 Lashes from Jesus Christ Superstar- the rawk riff portion, all industrialized, with our other guitarist in a Jesus costume (he has one, and pulled it off well for a costume contest a couple years ago) being whipped by a dominatrix. Classy!
