WHAT? THEY GOT AJ ON VOX?
THIS SONG KILLS.
AJ has always been their vocalist, as Derek Boyer has always been their bassist... It's Terence Hobbes that made me sort of flip out. That and them getting their shit going again.
I hope they don't record the album with that Roland kit they used in the clip. They announced this all at SMN Death Metal, and I done asked AJ what's with the sample trigger shit drums, and he's all "alls we got right now is this TD20 brah!"

Just listening to a bunch of Every Time I Die songs, no particular album. It's quickly becoming more and more obvious that they're one of my all-time favorite bands.

I'm still a bit confused about ETID. I really like em when I'm listening, but not many of the songs get stuck in my head as they're a bit manic or something. The riffage is fucking great though.
I'm now listening to Afroman - the Good Times (again). Awesome, awesome album

Really? I get that stuff stuck in my head all the time. But I listen to a lot of death metal, so ETID seems a lot more like a rock band that fuses metal with the classic ballsy rock formula, rather than a metal band playing rock.

Ah, the '90s. One of those odd periods in time when mainstream rock was actually pretty good.
You're listening to STP on DVD-A? How's that sound, anyway? I suppose it's like the Betamax of audio formats, but I'm still curious.

Better than CD, but your normal ass motherfucker wouldn't notice the difference. Think FLAC vs. 320k MP3. There's a lot of shit in the highs that the CD version fucks up. Again, though, not readily noticeable to most folk.

I don't care what normal people think. 128kbps mp3 is "good enough" for normal people, and I hear it as "nasty digital aliasing, I'd rather listen to cassette". I'm not some golden ears motherfucker, I don't think, but I suppose I can be a bit fussy about it, more than most. I think even a 320 mp3 rip of a really good source loses something, and it's usually an intangible something, "the space between everything", that last 1%, but I'm the person for whom that really puts it over the top.
I also think, for the most part, even really good sounding records don't have that anymore, don't sound like that anymore. Is it the mastering thing? I don't know. Maybe. Probably. Even the last Tool record, the last couple Gov't Mule and Nine Inch Nails records, stuff that's beautifully recorded... the St. Vincent records sound great but they're sooooo soo fucking squashed... Even good sounding records don't sound as good as they used to. And I suppose I am to a degree guilty of this myself, but I am a rank amateur self-producing and it's a minor miracle my stuff sounds half-good at all.
But I digress. I do wish there was a standard for high-res audio that caught on. Other than vinyl, because vinyl is not portable.

Re: What Are U Listening To Right Now: Home Surgery Instruct
Folks kept suggesting them, so i am spinning a couple records of theirs at the moment:
Pretty okay so far. My first impressions were a little better than my extended focus ones seem to be shaping up though.
It is good, but... familiar.
Part of this, i am sure has to do with the fact that my lingering flubeast seems to be causing haterade to flow from my sinuses at the moment. Or possibly directly from my brain/headache.
