Hey Cam, weren't you working on something with that drummer who was total crust-grinding?

Re: Best way to find local bands to join?
Yeah, sorta.. I'm kind of playing with the idea of playing guitar for the band but they have a totally different idea musical direction-wise. They have their vocalist already chosen and I don't think he's proper for any style I would want to convey.. I don't know, I'm a picky bitch. Ideally, I would like to just get into vocals in a badass death metal band with lots of material written and ready to rehearse/play shows. I can fuck around with other ideas in my spare time after that in terms of grindage..

If the former doesn't sound like ur cuppa tea, it's prolly doomed before the start. The latter is a tall order. Make demo, steal awsum drummer from metalcore band?

Re: Best way to find local bands to join?
I have a lot of weird respect issues with the grind dudes.. They're not bad dudes, but they're total fucking squares.. The only reason I hang out with them is because I can't talk death metal with even my death metal bandmates (well, my dormant DM band). They don't know/care about the technical details and randombitsofinformation that I find oh so very interesting. And yeah, the latter is def a tall order..

These are like, 100% forever squares. They smoke weed a little and shit, it's not like they're on the super straight and narrow or anything. They're just.. Total fuckin' geeks.
These kids are more or less the reason that normal people think anyone who listens to metal must be socially retarded nerds.

Re: Best way to find local bands to join?
I get, from an admittedly very different perspective, what you're getting at. I often don't get the perspective of my geekfriends. Or, rather, I do, but I feel like it's from an anthropologist's perspective. Even the artsy ones, which is at times almost saddening. I feel sometimes like I'm a bad influence on them or something , and I see a bit of a generation gap, actually, where the younger ones, even by a few years, are or were mere dabblers where at least some of us lived it and Did What There Was To Do, or still do. And even that doesn't wholly apply. I never embraced the live-vicariously fandoms of geek culture and always maintained a façade of bourgeois respectability in my professional life, simply for convenience's sake- why not; I'm just that weird artguy who makes the pictures look not-shitty and people tend to assume geekery versus rock-and-roll debauchery (and I do my best to let them maintain their assumptions I am Epic Boring) and... I don't dislike them or socializing with them, but I can only take it in moderate doses. There are things better left unsaid, sometimes; leave them to assume I am speaking from experience versus actually discussing the aforementioned experiences. Random aside, there is this billboard-screen thing in front of me that advertised a performance by a comedian who looks for all the world like this overweight drag queen (out of costume) I know. Who tends bar at this dyke bar my best friend and I occasionally frequent and makes the best chocolate martinis in Buffalo, at least, that I've had. But I digress.

Re: Best way to find local bands to join?
Get them drunk until they touch the strippers, thus ensuring a bouncer beating their faces in. That'll man em up.

Re: Best way to find local bands to join?
I touched the stripper on her big big boobies, and she didn't do anything. Then I found out that it's not allowed, but I was never caught. This happened a couple times before I found out...

Re: Best way to find local bands to join?
Nah, not really. They all just listen to metal and form weird obsessions with certain bands/people, swear in a way that seems forced and unnatural and come up with really terrible inside jokes. It's not that they don't try to be social, they just completely lack those life skills. They don't know how to "act cool". You don't have to be a fucking suave motherfucker to act cool, you just have to know how to keep stupid shit outcho mouth.

Re: Best way to find local bands to join?
The definition of cool is far stretched. For instance, one of my buddies says stupid shit all the time, but its funny as hell..... And hes still "cool".

Re: Best way to find local bands to join?
I'm not cool in the high-school sense of the word, but in the adult world I am.
Meaning, I've got something that resembles a personality and I won't steal your shit.
