So i mentioned this to one of the doods (an old friend of mine) who will be recording, and he went asking about anyone with mic stands up for the borrow. I think on facebook or something like that.

A random old friend of his from years back got in touch with him and said "man, i have like six stands in my basement just gathering dust that you can just HAVE". So my friend said hellsyeah, and they connected and the stands exchanged hands.

And so, i have just inherited probably five of them and a bag for to keep them in.

They are basic booms, On-Stage, and it looks like only two were ever even unwrapped. And those two don't even look like they were ever used. My friend said he only wanted one for his own use and that i could have the rest.

Which is fucking supersweet. That is about $100 in stands right there. Not much for most folks, but a completely massive acquisition for a moneyless hobo recordernerd such as myself.

super sweet score dood. I sent clips with teh mics and one has a shockmount, it's wrapped separately from the mics so keep an eye out for it.

Fucking sweet. Stands are a must have indeed, and fucking annoying to have to purchase. It's like, 'stands? Fucking STANDS? NGHGRGR'

Furealz. Stands are one of those those things that you just hate to buy, but you still have to buy. Like mic cables, drum heads, guitar cables, etc. Stuff that doesn't really have anything exciting about it whatsoever, but that you still need to spend money on need or else you can't make noise properly.

Like "OOOOH Batteries! I love buying BATTERIES!!!"

I do like buying drum heads though.

Also, an aside regarding a thing that sucks that i am experiencing at this exact moment:

Finding a schematic, drawing out a layout, and building a pedal, only to find it entirely nonfunctional with no obvious cause(though with a couple strange connections shown in the original schematic). And then going and finding that the schematic itself was not traced correctly, and that you have to start from scratch with a different, correct schematic, due to the degree of wrongness in the first.

I like HAVING new drumheads. But i fucking hate having to buy them. Expensive little shits, especially kicks.

Or like having to buy reso heads because as a kid you used them as batters once and now they are all denty? Complete bullshit. There is nothing exciting about reso heads. Except that good ones will make your toms sound like Batman crossed with Laser Jesus.

True, reso heads are teh bore. And heads in general are fucking expensive. Especially Remos, considering the level of quality. Remo quality control is the pits, they should chop five bucks off the cost. A fucking Control Sound head is mightly likely to have the centre spot off centre. Which is whack.

You sure they don't put the dot off center on porpoise? I mean if the thing is supposed to control ring, it might be? Admittedly though, i don't know those heads at all.

Ordered all the parts for my tree loving truck... $429. And I was going to buy a Vypyr with that money.

Oh well... 3-7 days and I'll have a brand new front clip on my teeruck.

Yeah it's basically one of those centre dot sort of snare heads.

Here's a pic of a snare I am trying to sell. I turned it to an angle to try and hide how off centre the dot is, but you can still tell.

This is so so so entirely true. The sort of thing that on its own, is not sexie or awesome in any way. Cases in any form, too, are a bitch, because they are expensive, large, and don't do anything cool at all. At least, until you have to move something and then you really appreciate having them.

I'm looking at 500-series lunchboxes knowing "I'mma have to buy one of these", and they're very expensive and are just a powered box with I/O to mount shit in, and you're out a few hundred before you've even put one preamp or compressor or EQ in the thing.

I did some design work a while back in exchange for a case of Dean Markley Blue Steel 10-52s, and I am not regretting this at all. It's an oddball gauge and now I don't have to buy strings for a bit. In my units of currency, it is more than two Coffees or one Whiskey Sour. These are tasty and have Practical Benefits. Strings are a functional object I have to go out of my way to get.

Oh, fucking cases are terrible. All types. I have a few things that could be cased, and i was just like... Hmm. i could just wrap towels around it...

At some point, maybe i will buy some plywood and ATA hardwares and make something cheap happen.

Also, guitar stands. I still haven't bought one yet. Just cannot bring myself to do it.

I have a really old guitar stand. The squishy plastic parts were white once... now they're kind of a funky looking yellow.

I have a few guitar stands, only one of which, I think, I actually bought. The others I inherited from former band members. Unfortunately, not the same former band members who inherited most of my mic stands.

Our other guitarist in Garda built our PA rack. It is boath exponentially cheaper and more sturdily built than the equivalent- there's a slanted rack that holds a Yamaha 01V on the top and a whole bunch of spaces on the bottom for things like poweramps, wireless units, lighting controllers, MIDI interfaces and whatnot. And bigass casters. It is nice. Between him and my drummer, who built his hardware case (also overbuilt like a brick shithouse) I could have some flight cases made for things like, say, amplifiers, that I am not down with dropping hundreds of dollars on.
